We contacted Overbrook Entertainment to get confirmation on this story, but they referred us to their Publicist, Forty-Two West. The publicist indicated that they weren’t able to either confirm or deny the story.

We find that quite astonishing, since this story has been out over 10 days, and it’s spreading like wildfire all over the net. Since it’s such a potentially toxic story, one would think that Will’s publicist would be all over it by now unless they’re totally incompetent. That’s led this writer to believe that this may be a trial balloon to measure public response, or maybe they’re beginning to feel the heat and they’re backing off the project.

If the story is a complete hoax, why didn’t they just say that and put it to rest? Why are they allowing such a toxic story to linger in the public domain?
.
I’ll tell you why I think they’re doing it – because it’s a trial balloon to measure public response. Politicians do it all the time when they want to see if they can get away with doing something stupid. They’ll leak the story to a publication with little or no credibility. That way they can maintain deniability if public reaction doesn’t go their way.
.
So if we don’t start raising hell over the mere thought of paying Zimmerman $3.2 million for killing Trayvon, they’re going to go forward with that movie.

So, Northern, I’m not just a news reporter reporting on a story. I’m an opinion writer, so I’m giving my opinion on WHY the story is being neither confirmed or denied. If they weren’t, at the very least, contemplating the idea of going forward with such a project, they’d have a vested interest in making SURE everyone knew the story wasn’t true. So I think there’s some validity to the story, and they’ve leaked a trial balloon to get the reaction of the public. So I think we should go absolutely berserk over it RIGHT NOW, so they will know it’s a bad idea, and that’s what my column. reflects.

I see this is satire? having perused the wattree chronicles-
since 2008-everything in this country is higher in price but wages.
that is exactly how you murder the poor and middle class. It’s a shame but as long as folks continue to cling to the epic fail policies that still see our race stuck in the 1970’s while every other minority in the country passes us by we’ll soon see 80% single parent households and 90% incarceration rates etc….as an MBA with a minor in history, that particular blog entry is full of more than it’s fair share of gross inaccuracy and revisionist history-but at the end of the day, I appreciate your passion-I just wish it was directed at why we are here and how to change that instead of promoting the usual failures.

These satire stories catch all sorts of folks. It caught me at first.
Everyone gets excited and it snowballs.

To draw a parallel to the knee-jerk reaction of the lynch mob
out to get Zimmerman is entirely appropriate.
