Similarly, even if now we lived in different physical space in the United States, human nature will not change: the more powerful groups will continue to “break the bounds” and impose on others. In addition, since all of us presently living have been thoroughly exposed to and influenced by Greco-Roman/white ideals of what is desirable in life, and since that includes an emphasis on what is good solely in individualistic terms, re-segregation by itself will not restore the unity our foreparents, who were closer in thought to Africa, enjoyed. Put another way: many of our inner cities ARE re-segregated, but most of us would not tout that model as successful.

I am an American. That is my identity. While I understand my ancestors were brought here as slaves, this is my country. The world and indeed this country do not belong to anyone, and I refuse to relinquish my right to it. Believe it or not this is in keeping with scripture from the Bible.

There is a question I have though; other groups of people have countries that they originated from such as China, India, Mexico, and so on. They have their own cultural differences that kind of separates them from the majority in some ways, and some may one day want to return to their country. African Americans seem to lack that identity. What do you think we can do?

What this author advocates is just naïve, which means an excessively simple view point of the world. The world, if you believe in God is not at all segregated but highly integrated, which means parts that work well together. I point to the sun which stands out in space and constantly provides light while the earth rotates around it. The earth by rotating gives us day and night. An example of parts working well together. What causes parts not to work well together when it comes to humans is power. Power as practiced by humans is unique because we have been given a mind by God to think.

History shows power can be physical, monetary, and intellectual or a combination of all three. Power has not just been exercised over blacks but whites as well. Adolf Hitler is a good example. We find power has been and is used to restrict human freedom. In the United States where we have a written constitution (blacks were instrumental in its writing it or should I say its re-writing) defining the rights of each individual, blacks find themselves dominated by the physical power of numbers (outnumbered in terms of population) and money (black wealth is infinitesimally small compared to white wealth). However, there is nothing preventing blacks from intellectually segregating themselves from the rest of America. A great case to support my point are the Amish people. You don’t need the permission of the majority population to do this. You simply have to have the same intellectual bent. Blacks therefore by their own “actions” have decided as a group or race within the United States not to live in a separate society as the Amish people do and this writer advocates. They have decided to be competitive with other groups within this country. It is going to be a fight to achieve and make our mark as a people among the various groups dominating American life today, but it is what we have chosen to do by our demonstrated actions. There is nothing wrong with that. We have made considerable progress from enslavement to where we are now. Who ever said it was going easy?! Our determination is impressive.
