Dr. Watkin’s you are so on point with this one. The NCAA is run like a series of plantations and the only ones getting rich are the overseer’s…er Participating universities. Not only does this process do a disservice to athletes that never go to the so-called pro’s, but it does even a greater disservice to the few who make it. Their stories are rife with riches gained and lost because they were not educated enough to know how to handle and maintain and grow the millions of dollars they were given in lucrative contracts to play. Their managers and agents wind up with all of hat money in the end in many cases. They are defenseless and set up by the very system that made them rich as prime candidates to be ripped off and become poor.

I hope some day we address this issue in a way that blesses these young men and women with an education that allows them to succeed and at minimum hold on to their gains. The law does not even protect them from those who prey on them and it has become almost a ritual to turn them into economic victims.

Thank you for this article. This is why I dont watch March Madness. I am a working professional with college education and a career. Where I work all the white people are so happy to watch the games and build their brackets but I look around and see so many of “us” working here and I think to myself. You love to watch them on t.v. (entertainment) but you would never hire one. And based on information provided in this article, if they did hire “one” that person would probably be ill equipped to perform the job despite having a degree. This is sad…in almost every way black people are still slaves. Spiritually, Mentally, Emotionally and Financially. But what a beautiful plantation we are living on.
