Anyway, I read online that the teenager worked overtime and saved up enough money to purchase a belt that cost $350.00. He saw his favorite rapper, Juelez(sp) Santana wearing it. I know that I’m not as young as this teen nor do I have the mind of a teenager, but I could think of a lot more other items to spend 350 bucks on other than one belt.

And if these white-owned, high-end stores have racist employees then why are black people shopping there? I doubt very much that every black person will cease from shopping @ Barney’s or Macy’s because of these incidents.

Also, if today’s rappers are influencing young males to buy expensive items, there shouldn’t be any need for articles such as this one. Black males, such as Christian and Brown, will continue to purchase expensive items because they can afford to.

Profiling, interrogation, and detainment are different aspects of Loss Prevention(LP). Almost every person entering a store or entering a particular area of a store is profiled. A person may notice they are being watched, I have. But, if the LP officer watches a black person, it must be racial profiling. Business don’t waste their time/money interrogating and detaining people without cause. If a business doest have an effective LP program most likely they wont stay in business.

Business does not quickly take black peoples money; black people freely give the money to a business for goods and services. That’s how business works.
When you buy from a business, you should expect them to provide you with a good product at a fair price. Only a dumb ass , like sharpton, would expect them to provide you with a business.

@ewill — $1.1 trillion is not majority money, of course, but one has to consider, in this age of razor-thin margins for many businesses: 12 percent of revenues is more than enough to determine whether certain businesses make their quarterly numbers — and thus, where their stock goes at least for the short-term — or not. But the point is not for Black people to withdraw that spending power and destabilize the nature and face of American business in the main; the point is to take that money and build viable Black-owned businesses that provide training, employment, and resources for Black people.

You will no doubt agree, ewill, that 150 years after slavery, it is not strictly corporate America’s job to give Black people employment; it would be better for Black people to build the structures to employ and support themselves. $1.1 trillion, withdrawn in any significant percentage from existing corporate profits, would be sufficient to command a certain amount of attention from the mainstream; Rev. Sharpton is right about that. But, Black people working together to use much of that $1.1 trillion to create opportunity for themselves and others and generating self-sustaining wealth — no matter the opinion of others, we need to accomplish that.

This will be the last thing I have to say about your comments. You say why am I still complaining about what happen 250 years ago, because that same racist attitude still exist today. You’re a perfect example of what I’m talking about, and because the mental affects from 300 years of negative programming still exist in my people. No it doesn’t sound like you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, but you weren’t denied a job, a loan, charged higher interest rates, had your land stolen, not able to live where you wanted, denied a quality education, experimented on, shot in the street, all because of the color of your skin.

What does being judged by your character have to do with the color of my skin? But this is how people like you think. For a person with three degrees, and you don’t understand What I always end my comments with shows your real intelligence. But I’ll tell you what it means. It means that for the last 400 years, Black people continued to be discriminated in all areas of our lives, especially economically. It means by working together, we would be much more happier if we didn’t have to depend on the government or people like you to create jobs and other opportunities for us. I started disliking Negros when I was about 47 years old. Living among and working with Negros on a daily basis in Louisiana. Loudmouth, rude, fat, lazy, stupid people. I’m now 57. I just came back from being out of the country for about 2.5 years. My first encounter with a black…..small boy about 3-4 in a community playground. I didn’t understand what he was saying. I realized he wanted help to drink from a fountain. I helped him. His drunk mother came over and started yelling at me.

You are right. The term ”all men are created equal” didn’t include Negros. It was used in the Declaration of Independence and applied only to white male landowners. Hypocritical forefathers? No, they just didn’t consider you!

My Grandfather was a cotton farmer, moved the family up north to work in the factories.
My father was a high school drop out, started worked for a rich man as a gardener.
My father also drank too much.
My other Grandfather was an immigrant, never became a US citizen.
My mother graduated HS but, stayed home, as was the way back then.
They were 18 when they married. Stayed together until my fathers death at 78.
I was born in Pontiac MI. I wore my older brothers hand-me-downs.
One of my younger sisters was handicapped.
My parents never took government assistance.
I wont even go into some of the houses we lived in.
In the third grade, the teachers told my parents not to expect too much from me, my mind wasn’t very good. In junior high, I was in Special Ed classes.

I graduated from HS.
I have 3 degrees now…none in English…LOL. And, I had a nice and successful military career.
My parents took care of both thier mothers(thier fathers passed away first)until they passed away. My wife and I are now taking care of my mother.
