Four Tips for Developing a “Millionaire Mindset” While in College.

(ThyBlackMan.com) here has been much mention lately about the future of HBCUs, expanding on facts about what needs to happen in order to remain competitive in this global landscape. There is even some debate pertaining to whether Higher-Education is even necessary; considering the plethora of free college courses on the internet. A new era of the “Black College” experience is at hand and you have been chosen to lead this new HBCU movement. Your journey begins with developing a mindset that will carry you through the next 4-5 years of your life and beyond. Here are four strategies that will prepare you for the challenges that lie ahead.

1. Network

There is no secret that networking is the mainstay of the American culture in this social media driven society. But, unless you have the capacity to organize your network into meaningful relationships it means nothing to have a list of 5000 friends per se “Facebook”. Understand that you’ve got to know people in the industry in which you want to work with and begin building rapport now. Get out of you bubble and start networking off campus and around the world via “LinkedIn”.

2. Become a “Specialist” in your chosen field.

The time starts now to begin assessing how you can set yourself apart from the thousands of others students all around the world; who will get a college degree within the same field you have chosen. What this means is that you have to find a niche within your field and master it right now. You don’t have time to wait until graduation to consider your future. Napoleon Hill famed author of Think & Grow Rich quoted “Successful men, in all callings never stop acquiring specialized knowledge related to their major purpose, business, or profession.

3. Read “The Wealth Choice” by Dr. Dennis Kimbro

 4. Stay Persistent

Vincent Lombardi once stated that “Winners never quit and quitters never win.” You have to persist in order to make it through the rough patches of life and that’s what developing a “millionaire mindset” represents. In order to overcome any obstacles that life throws in your path you must develop a mindset that automatically triggers a “failure is not an option” mechanism. You have come too far to give up now and the times are calling for individuals who will persist towards their desired future reality no matter what the cost. Too often students start to feel a little pinch in an area of their lives while they are in college; and begin to find ways to retreat instead of developing a strategy to move forward. Here are 3 powerful concepts you can utilize to stay persistent on your journey….

Sleep (avoid the myth that’s says” in college we party and stay up all night” syndrome)

Focus (prioritize your tasks into smaller more manageable tasks)

Get Active (Don’t become the college couch potato; workout in order to boost your energy)

  • Do not deceive yourself. Some millionaires quit school and do not have degree, but most of them were graduated in the secondary schools and colleges..

  • Great Article. IMHO networking is extremely overrated and becoming an expert is not synonymous with a college degree. Focus on the prerequisites required to get where you want to be along with studying the backgrounds of those who are already there would prove most beneficial to your journey.

  • Excellent article. College is becoming more and more unnecessary and a waste of time and money. Most tech millionaires quit school and don't have a degree.
