Instill in them the importance of living life through various stages and for them to enjoy life one day at a time. To lose a child is one of life’s ultimate examples of hardship that any parent can endure. Nowadays, kids are in a hurry to be grown before their time, as we like in a technological age that has exposed the kids to more things that we as parents, one generation removed, never dreamt about. Whereas, we had the old TV as one of our babysitting mechanisms, kids have the computer and the freedom to go to sites on purpose or accidentally. Parents have to embrace the right to parent and have to take the responsibility of it seriously. I for one am not interested in being my child’s friend versus ensuring that they understand the consequences of their actions in making various choices. Emphasize the value of an education and also instill in them values and explain that nothing in this life comes without a price.

For example, when something is stolen from a business, explain that the cost will be passed on to the next consumer, thus the prices increase. When things cost more, it make take longer to be in a position to buy. So the time of doing without increases. Talk about the prison system and make it mandatory for them to watch the documentary entitled Slavery By Another Name. This film will give them some important background information of the time period following the Civil War through World War II and how they as men have been treated. Lastly, make sure that the time spent with them means something and do not make them dependent on anyone or anything but GOD first, then family. Be the example from the start and the race may be long but they will be able to endure through the end. Just keeping it real, Papacool.
