Dr. Watkins: When the video is released and it shows that the honor student jumped on the female officer as the officer was walking out of the restaurant, will you retract the assumptions and generalizations that are rampant in your article?

The local paper in Bloomington did not engage in due diligence before reporting the story and it appears you did not either.

Dr. Watkins, you should have stuck with your original instincts. The Bloomington police have video that supports the officers’ contentions that Gabriella Calhoun jumped on an officer. This lady simply wants a payday.

This article sums up the situation to me perfectly. Police get nervous when they see a group of black Americans. The riots in Los Angeles were started by police harassing an already volatile and angry group of people after the Rodney King verdict was announced. In my opinion, the police purposely created this situation and I cannot believe they followed their own internal policies and procedures when dealing with the situation at Denny’s Restaurant. Taxpayers pay the salaries of the Police. Their job is to Protect and Serve, not to Oppress and Brutalize!
