To quote the comedian Paul Moody..."This is your Negro wake up call." I'm not the least bit concerned about Paula Deen. She is a victim of the disease of racism. No one will stop their ugliness when they are not held accountable. I'm particularly glad these incidences of racism are becoming more apparent. The Supreme Court has reminded us that our vote will not count, legislative leaders call the President an N word and no one cares. One thing is certain: The days of placing our probervial heads in the sand as it relates to race relations is over. If you don't have racial self respect(calling each other Niggers, niggas, etc.) don't expect any other race to respect us as a people.

Although I do not condone Paula Deen's used of the n word, I will however give her credit for her attempt to be honest. I have to ask the question that has been on my mind, why hasn't there been an effort to talk about race in an open format in the manner of the Presidential debates?

Since I know that more people than Mrs. Deen have taken the liberty of using the n word, I do not believe that they would voluntarily come forth and make the appropriate apology such as this one. The reason I would be apt to forgive Mrs. Deen is because she is just a small example of the traditional acceptance of bigotry. What goes on behind closed doors would be enough to make all of us humble enough to ask forgiveness privately, but to go on mass media and do it has got to be one of the most difficult decisions one has to make.

We know the Bible itself directs us to "confess" our sins openly to one another in order to activate spiritual forgiveness. Although it says that, with the exception of the Catholic Church, the confessionals are not happening, and I will start with myself on that one. I am not saying that Mrs. Deen can be let off the hook, but when someone does come forth, for whatever reason, it seems that the least we can do as human beings is to pray for her to have healing in this area of her life. Being well known only adds to the problem, but she will have her base of supporters that will stick with her through this ordeal, as they should.

I have been guilty of the opposite as I have talked about peckerwoods, red-necks, and honkeys for years even if I did not know what the impact was at the time. All I knew is that I had fun doing it whenever I was provoked to do so. As time has gone by I have developed a no tolerance attitude towards any type of racial joking in my presence. I learned that no matter how it starts out, all it takes is the substitution of any ethicity and the joke could have deadly consequences if taken out of context. The one thing that should be noted is that Mrs. Deen is not BLACK. She is a product of her environment that tolerated slurring and probably was around it so much that it was a daily part of her life.

The irony is that she does have people of color on her payroll and entourage as I have had the opportunity to see with my own eyes personally. While in my presence Mrs. Deen was one of the nicest persons one would ever hope to been as far as her star power goes. In other words, she was good people. In closing I just ask that before any opinion is given, one would honestly take the time to step into her shoes and go through the same thing. If prayer can help her, then I am on board with that in Jesus' name. Peace out, Papacool.
