But I’d like to suggest that perhaps your problem stems from the fact that conservatism by definition means that those who adhere to it are dedicated to “conserving” the values and traditions of the past, and that’s bad news for Black people. It’s like being a Jew that’s part of a party that’s dedicated to preserving Nazism.

Chris, I appreciate the unique insights that you quoted from Jackie Robinson’s biography about what drew him to the GOP. However, while you state that the black community priorities remain largely ignored on both the left and right, I see all evidence pointing only to the left. Token voices parroting an approved line? Evidence shows me that’s exactly how the left views the black community. I disagree totally with your unsupported view that racist forces are more at work in the GOP today than ever before. Instead I see evidence that women, hispanics, and African-Americans, looking for the values and priorities that Jackie Robinson spoke about, and have the courage to leave the Democratic party, find the opposite of what you believe the Republican Party is about today.
