However, some conservatives are just so UGLY in the way they talk about the entire half of the country that has come to different conclusions that I cannot say I am comfortable in the camp. It is said in India that you cannot cut off a man’s nose and then offer him a rose; the conservative argument might be more convincing (because frankly, wealth building is far superior to generational dependency, and I can’t stand liberals for not getting with the program in the way they deal with their poor constituents) if presented with a slightly higher level of discourse than comparing the whole majority of the country that voted to re-elect Barack Obama unfavorably with one’s favorite alley cat. No one joins up with those that OPENLY hold them in contempt, which is probably part of the reason why Governor Romney, after having gotten caught on tape writing off 47 percent of the country as beneath his attention, is retired while President Obama is preparing for his second term. The outcome should be noted. People do not care how “high-info” you are until they know how much you care, and unfortunately, some conservatives just keep dropping the ball in that area.

@G — “Modern America wants all to succeed” — that is reassuring. I hope then that I will, as a Black woman, see less and less of old patterns being recycled on all sides. The victim mentality IS unfortunately entrenched in parts of the Black community, and reinforced by a number of so-called Black leaders. We have not seen MLK’s like for a while, indeed. But recall that just two months ago, folks were walking around with “Put White back in the White House” signs, and a prominent white politician before an all-white audience was caught writing off 47 percent of the country — that 47 percent that we all know contains most people of color — as not worth his effort. Modern America, apparently, still has some holdouts on both sides of the color line that are not getting with the program, so there is work to be done. You keep working on your side, G, and I promise I’ll keep working on mine…

Congratulations for speaking the truth. Modern America wants all to succeed, not for folks to accept the case that low income people should settle for their lot in life and demand that that “lot” be improved through the work of others. As a white man, I believe America needs a modern day MLK like figure to transform the thinking of some AAs. To reject jesse’s and sharpton’s message of prejudice of the 60’s and forge a new road. To be judged by the content of ones character is an American trait. MLK understood this. May his memory always be blessed.
