What we are also going to have to do is get very serious about how we allow our young Black boys to be “programmed” by the media we allow them to view. All the talk in the world is not going to override hundreds of hours of them viewing and listening to media that is telling their subconscious mind to live only for lowest-common-denominator pleasures — hundreds of hours before leaving high school. Building a Black man takes decades of pouring life-affirming things into the subconscious mind he starts out with as a boy IN ADDITION to the ways we teach his conscious mind. The sooner we recognize the importance of what we let our children watch, day after day — and not watch — the better.
