Thank you, Rev. Jackson! I am a long time admirer of yours and I agree with you. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! And if they DO make these cuts, the money will probably go into the rich people at the top pockets. Even former Gov. Jim Hunt has jumped on the bandwagon saying we should tighten our belts. HOW MUCH MORE DO WE NEED TO TIGHTEN OUR BELTS WITH GAS OVER $3.00 A GALLON? I wonder how much they promised to pay Hunt to say that, because he's usually for the poor and disadvantaged. KEEP SPEAKING THE TRUTH, REV. Jackson! You should have been president!

A jobs program might be a good start, but it will take much more than that. With increased mechanization and a huge global workforce, large businesses have little incentive to pay many enough to support themselves and their families. In the long term (but starting now) we are going to need to rethink this focus on "jobs" and shift to teaching people the character and skills they need to have their own businesses and create jobs for themselves and others. To be blunt: nobody has been committed to full employment for any segment of society since slavery ended. We need not expect government or big business to change their tune now.
