Eminem: Hip Hop’s White Boy.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Eminem is one of the greatest rappers to touch a microphone. Yep, I said it and I hope you believe it. This is an opinionated article so it really does not matter if you do or don’t regard the white rapper. Eminem has been on the scene for more than ten years and produced some of the most thought-provoking albums in history.

I admit it took a minute to understand where he was coming from as it relates to his upbringing. To be honest, it is not that different from the typical African American male’s life in Detroit, Michigan. I say everyone has a story and that  progression is the key not possessions –Eminem gets this today.

If I were to ask you who would be on your all-time favorite hip hop list, if Eminem was not on it I would be surprised. When he started out with Dr. Dre no one could stop his flow, the beats and production was sick on each album. And, Eminem’s alias, Marshall Mathers were a force to be reckoned with. As a fan, I’ve never seen Eminem having beef with any rapper – however, his squad that he rolled with in the past did. I say that is fair and square and it counts to his credits as being an upstanding citizen in Hip Hop. Eminem has had to deal with his personal demons.

The accomplished rapper has been on drugs, almost lost his daughter, been in a fight with his baby’s mom for years, and his mother. The price of fame and what comes along with it can drive anybody crazy if they can’t handle it all. Eminem has been in drug rehab and successfully kicked his habit with prescription drugs.

The music was always there for him to use as a sounding board and on the track, “I’m Not Afraid,” he tells the world why he has surpassed all of the mess that he was engaged in. The one thing that can be said is that through it all his flow is much better. And, for what it is worth he can still battle anyone in the game and freestyle at the drop of a dime. I will give him a pass at #8 on my list of all-time greats in hip-hop.

To be active in music right now is a good thing and it does not look like Eminem slows down anytime soon. He has the awards, the street credit, and rhymes to back up his sentiments of being one of the best in the game.
