Good article.

Sometimes I think we need to upgrade our definition of a 'successful movement'. The best, longest lasting and most successful movements have always been difficult to contain in a definable mold. They are shapeless, formless movements, able to take on the form most needed at the moment to progress onwards. They are like water. Water doesn't have any particular shape or form; but is capable of taking on whatever shape it has to in order to keep flowing.

Garvey's movement became most powerful when it was actually out of his control. And the same can be said for any great movement. This also makes it impossible to stop by those who feel threatened by it. I could go on for days...but as already mentioned: good stuff.

This is a timely discussion for me. Because, here in Washington State, the
State run Liquor stores have just gone private, the state run stores along with the license to sell, were put up for auction. In a Starbucks Coffee shop hangout, I heard a rant by a popular community member, with visable means, lamenting foreigners coming to our state, with big money taking over our Liquor stores in the neighoborhood. I found after checking difference media, the winning bids for five of the stores in our community were won by Canadian Nationals with East Indian sir names. The winning bids ranged from $35,000 to $350,000. I site this to illustrate the consumer mentality of our people in the face of opportunity. Some place a higher priority on expensive toys than building capital from scratch.
