Empathy? Sure. The kid got expelled for the third time in a year after drug residue was found on him. Fed up, his mom dumped him at his dad’s house. Dad took off and didn’t even notice he was missing until the next day. Both parents feel guilty as hell, as well they should, and want to blame everyone except themselves for what happened.

This isn’t the sort of thing that happens to happy, healthy, well adjusted children of competent parents. It doesn’t have a damned thing to do with race. It’s something that happens with depressing frequency to all loser parents when they don’t take responsiblity to do the most important job in the world – raising their children.

But, hey, I don’t expect a racist loser like you to understand that. All you and your fellow klansmen want is to burn a cross in someone’s yard, then get the ol’ pogrom spirt going and go lynch someone. That didn’t accomplish anything when white folks did it and I can guarantee you that it won’t accomplish anything if black folks take up the same tactics and attitudes.

As amazing as it may seem to you, the vast majority of people in the world will treat you as well as you treat them. If you’re a jerk, they’ll treat you like a jerk. If you’re a good person, they’ll treat you well.

Have you listened to Zimmerman’s call to the police? He wasn’t even sure Martin was black until Martin approached his truck halfway through the call. He didn’t call the police because Martin was wearing a hoodie. He called the police because Martin appeared to be stoned out of his mind, and appeared to be checking out houses in an area that had recently experienced a rash of break ins.

There seems to be a total disconnect between the fact that a disproportionate number of blacks are in prison and the fact that every single one of them either entered a guilty plea or were convicted by a jury.

Anyone who wants equality, regardless of what they look like, first needs to recognize responsibility for the consequences of their own actions and admit when they’re wrong.

Parents need to teach their children that common courtesy and formal politeness are survival skills in a society made up of the most dangerous animal this tired old planet has ever spawned – man. There are people I number among my friends whose world pictures are so radically different from my own that it’s amazing we’d even talk to each other. Nevertheless, we’ve always been polite to each other and somewhere along the line the things we have in common gained more weight than those we don’t.

It’s really very simple. If you act like a jerk, people will treat you like the jerk you are. What is sad is that it’s not uncommon for a person angry with the actions of a jerk, to use a racial epithet, when what they really mean is a term more synonymous with jerk.

The real tragedy is that if Trayvon’s parents had taught him common courtesy and, that it isn’t always about race, this probably never would have happened. As a stranger wandering around a gated community where there had been problems, neighbors might reasonably ask him to explain his presense.

Is that so hard to understand? In some languages the word for “stranger” and “enemy” is the same word. The tendency is ingrained in human nature and not unique to any particular race. A stranger’s very survival, as did Trayvon’s, may depend on his ability to politely explain his presense where he is not known, as a good faith demonstration of his peaceful intentions.

How hard would it have been for Trayvon, when asked what he was doing, to simply say, “I’m returning from the store to my dad’s house down the street, where I’m visiting for the next week.”

All available information at this point indicates Martin was openly hostile and threw the first punch. The real world doesn’t play by school yard rules where one might get away with whooping someone to show what a tough stud he is, or to “teach them a thing or two”. In the real world, the person you attack may be far more dangerous than you ever imagined. If you’re polite, you need never discover just how dangerous the other man really is. If you don’t have that survival skill in your tool kit, the law of averages says you will eventually meet that dangerous man someday and he will destroy you.

So, black parents, by all means, please learn from the lesson taught by Trayvon. Teach your children the skills they need to survive and get rid of the chip on your shoulders. Children aren’t pets. They need more than putting out a bowl of food and water each day and then forgetting about them. If you teach them what they need to know in order to survive, they’ll do just fine. If you don’t, they won’t.

Nothing to do with clothes, race, pistols, or Fla. Just self defense.
