I guess my world is a little different…Living in and being from the rural south. When I say rural, I mean towns of less than 500 people…towns that have been “depressed” long before the recession, with nothing more than houses and a post office (and most of those will be closing soon)…towns where the children are bused to schools sometimes twenty-five miles from their home. These towns are where people who work drive miles to that job…the others “make it” on a fixed income. Places where those without family have to pay someone to take them to the grocery store and doctor…towns where because of their lifestyle some haven’t had an ID in years…I don’t know, maybe I’m looking too far beneath the surface and wondering about those people. No, I’m not on the 2A bandwagon…I’m just trying to give a voice to those who are often not listened to and/or ignored.

LibraryLady: Per the Heller decision, owning a firearm is an individual “core” right but I still have to show an ID to buy one. How is this any different than showing an ID to vote? Both are fundamental rights. So now I suppose you’ll jump on the 2A bandwagon…..

Wow! You are still confused. People like you are my biggest fear when it comes to the U.S. political system. You argue for a “team” instead of leveraging the political cause. Since you are a “black conservative Republican”, and you spout off about all the illnesses in the Black community that are constantly repeated about YOUR people. You seem to be implying that being a “black conservative Republican” changes everything.

I am going to assume that you are college educated but I can assure you that you were not a history major. First of all, there is a difference between a “black conservative” and a “white conservative”. Your agendas are not the same. Conservative is defined as, “Tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions”. Does that mean you believe Blacks have obtained parity in the U.S.?

Secondly, you use the term “black” as blanket to cover all people of dark skin. That’s pretty sad because there are immigrants here from Nigeria, The Bahamas, and even second and third generation Afro-Europeans. They are successful and I think would be offended that you feel that just because they are “black” they do not have the ability to succeed in this country. That is evident in your admiration for other cultures such as the Asian and Jewish communities. These cultures have conflicts amongst themselves and yet they band together to leverage their Community needs.

Unlike us “black” folk that you can spot on C SPAN, there is significant contingency of democrats that are Jewish. These same people were the ones who marched with southern blacks and stayed with the with the Democratic Party when most “white conservatives” fled the party for the Republican Party. Does that mean we are the tools of the “Jewish Conspiracy” which is believed by some “white conservatives”?

Finally, this is not a personal attack on you. There are problems in the “Black” community, just as there are in other communities. However, when you take up the mantle and the label of a “team” instead of leveraging your gains, you are not helping. I admire the story of your father but do you think if he had just told everybody he was a “black conservative Republican” his life would have been easier?

This is politics where the game is to use whomever you can to get what you want at whatever cost. Try arguing positive ideas without looking down on others. The best advice came from one Republican we can both agree upon:

To Library Lady, there is no way showing an ID is in anyway stopping someone from voting, period.

“They tell you that despite the fact that showing proper ID is required to board an airplane and a za-gillion other things, requiring ID to vote will disenfranchise blacks.” Really sick of this line used by many on the Right as an excuse that nothing is wrong with the voter ID laws…the things named that require an ID are priviledges…not everyone will board an airplane or a za-gillion other things. Voting is not a priviledge, it’s a right of every American.

There are extremes and in-between views in each Party. Extreme Left, pragmatics, moderates, to Tea Party on Right.
