Absolutely, sister. It really makes me wonder why some men choose to display their backsides. It’s disheartening to see how the standards for men’s behavior and attire have declined. What happened to the days of men acting and dressing like gentlemen?

We need to understand that the saggy pants culture is more than just prison culture. I believe it transcended prison culture decades ago. This behavior is a state of mind. As long as we accept this aberration, and keep making excuses for it, others will constantly judge us through the lens of those type of African Americans wearing saggy pants with no shame or sense of decency. We can do better. I suggest we all read “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”

The problem is — and there are people sagging who are approaching their 40s, so it’s not just a generation thing, it’s two — that many of us do not know how to think, dress, and act in a way appropriate to the society and civilization in which we live. And before anybody starts talking about why we should have to conform, let’s just be clear: jailbird style would not be received in West African civilizations either, so let’s not even go down that road.

Simply put: Sagging comes from jail culture, in which the “saggee” is letting his “betters” know that his rump is available for sexual activity at any time. No civilization in history has accepted that kind of dress and behavior for those who want to live above the role of being somebody’s trick. So, for those that want to be treated better and respected for more than being the cellblock prostitute, get those pants up — and parents, please… I would tan my child’s hide before letting him out of the house looking like the cellblock prostitute. Our children are worth more than that; if they don’t see it yet, we have to enforce it until they do…

Great article and funny too. It truly amazes me to see these idiots walking a certain way to keep their pants up, showing their nasty ass panties, that’s right panties. Thanks for the article, this shit should discuss every black woman on earth. I saw a woman walk in walmart the other day allowing her 18yr old idiot to escort her into the building this way. I work at a community college that has a dress code. Many of our young men have received multiple tickets for sagging pants. They just pay them and keep on sagging. I do not understand and the thing that really boggles my mind is that the parents are probably purchasing them…no way I’m going to buy pants two sizes to big for my son…he knows better than to ask. But I think the more we focus on how we don’t like it, the more they will continue to keep sagging.
