Also, I beg to differ, Mr. James. Malcolm X was an angry and bitter black man. Of course, his family and others are gonna say that he was a kind and gentle man. Folks will say that about a lot of people just for the hell of it. Before he went to prison, Malcolm was a pimp, among others. Since when does anger not play a part in pimping those in your own race. When he became Malcolm X, he said things about the Civil Rights Movement that displayed he was angered by MLK’s program. He even referred to some black people as Uncle Tom’s. That sounds like anger, being mad, and a bunch of other emotions.

There has been and will always be angry black males. Till this day, men will ask me, “Why you look so evil?” Just because I’m not smiling or grinning up in their face doesn’t mean that I’m evil mean, or angry. But I could become angry and evil if they constantly ask me that question. Anyway, I see males of all ages looking mean, but I don’t normally ask them why. Most of the time, they are angry and mad because of something they did or said that was wrong or uncalled for. Yet they are angry because its their fault and they can’t blame anyone else. What angry black males are gonna have to realize is that its not everyone’s obligation to deal with his anger, especially if the reason is something he brought on himself. Black males got themselves in that mess, they should be able to get themselves outta that mess without throwing the blame on others.

Our people should read the book ¨Powernomics¨ by Dr. Claud Anderson. A Black Bible! It is a Marshall Plan for Black America. It is available on amazon.com. I invite you also to watch his YouTube videos and the ones of the lawyer Michelle Alexander. These people really understand what is going on. For my part, I am building my own business because I don’t want to work with White people anymore who made me go through hell. They always exploited us and probably always will. When I will be independent economically, it will be freedom from these unhealthy people.

Mr. James:

Your article touches on a lot of issues that some Black Men refuse to accept about themselves; disguise the issues with $$$$, women, cars & jewelry; have multiple sex partners (male & female), media sensationalism, rap videos; the list goes on and on however, I can identify & relate to some of your experiences as; I myself was labled as an ‘angry black man’, ‘crazy’, just plain angry and unapproachable when I first started here at the Miami VA in 1998. . . Naturally, I chose to keep my job and got the needed help, therapy, and other help (via the EAP Program); that I knew I needed in order to not only keep my job but, change almost EVERYTHING about myself that I always blamed on “the white man”, my “ex girlfriend”, society, etc. etc. etc…

Although, I felt embarrassed, and a lot of other negative feelings and how my co-workers would see me at that time but, those same Black, Hispanic, White, Asian employees who used to label me ‘crazy’, ‘shell shocked’, ‘trouble maker’, “he won’t last long”; are the same employees who smile and speak to me in the hallways now. Some have even told me what they thought & felt about me at the time yet, I value all of it because those same employees have helped me see ME. . . . .

Being a Black Military/Combat Veteran, a lot of key therapuetic programs within the VA PTSD/Mental Health Departments are geared system wide to better help a lot of past/present/future combat veterans get their lives back on track (whether they stay in or get out after their duty; combat or peacetime).

Too many of our ‘brothers & sisters’ are locked up for doing bad things however, it all starts with SELF as; GOD gave manking 1 thing that man can control; (CHOICE OF FREE WILL). . . .

I’m sure a lot of men/women will label my post & me as ‘crazy’, ‘shellshocked’, and so on yet, the most important factor in starting the healing process is with SELF; not anyone else because until I learn to treat me good & learn to love me then, I cannot treat another human good or even learn the aspects of forgiveness, acceptance, unconditional love, etc. etc. etc…..

Awesome article that puts that lump in your throat but, “Big Mamma” always said that the truth will hurt, seem confusing, and so on however, “The truth will set you free”; “GOD don’t like ugly”; “You reap what you sow”. . . So, I can’t dispute what the ‘old folks’ used to say time and time again. EXPERIENCE often times, teaches us a lot better than knowledge and books do.

***{WE AS BLACK MEN, CANNOT BUILD OUR CHILDREN, WOMEN, & COMMUNITIES UP UNTIL WE BUILD OURSELVES UP (FIRST)!!!; AS BLACK MEN}. . . . .
