Tattoos are different things for different people. For me my tattoo that reads “Rize Always” is a form of self expression. It was thought out and not done carelessly. Because of the work environment I work in I made sure my tattoo was placed in a specific area( my upper arm).

Not being one to follow trends I did this for me. Some tattoos can be beautiful and others not so much. But as I have had to tell some folks my tattoo is for and only for me.

There is a reason why tattoos are exploding and it isn’t just because its trendy. The big brother government wants a much easier way to identify you.

Hi, Giosincere. Thank you for reading and sharing! Yes ma’am! I definitely agree that we as women should see our value without having to do something to alter ourselves. Like wearing makeup, I think it should enhance us and if we decide not to wear it that day, we should still feel intact/beautiful! I totally respect those who choose to get tattoos, etc. My concern, since I teach high school students, is for young impressionable teenagers, who for the most part are still forming their identities and becoming self-actualized. Making such a permanent decision in a time period of transition can lend to unnecessary issues/conditions later. I really wish more would think and consider!!

I agree with the fact that tattooing has been on the scene for years and because I can’t go back in time to interview those who received them, I have to believe that getting the tattoo was a conscious act rooted in meaning and depth, rather than the trend that prevails today. Great article. Likening stretch marks and birth marks to tattoos is a beautiful comparison. So figurative but so real. Our bodies already tell a story/stories. Why tell more stories? I’ve always loved body art like henna because it isn’t permanent but permanent marks like tattoos I was taught was taboo. I was also taught that the ink would taint my bloodstream and my childrens bloodstream if I chose to have children. We must value ourselves as women.

People have been getting tattoos since the beginning of time. By many different cultures spread all throughout the world. Which is the only reason tattooing was considered taboo in the first place. If you get what I am saying.

As for me, I’ve tattooed my entire upper back, and shoulders. One of the wisest financial investments I’ve ever made, and not for a second do I regret the time and effort that went into coming up with the design, interviewing tattoo artists, and going under the “needle.”
