I hardly think the excerpt on Libya was accurate and unfairly demonizes a man who gave billions to other African nations sharing the oil wealth. Libya also was, before the NATO bombs, the most developed nation in Africa with arguably the best health care system for all its citizens (they had the lowest infant mortality rate on the continent). They were also some of the most educated on the continent with the govt paying for its citizens who wanted it, to go to college abroad. Sure the man came to power through a military coup, sure he was a dictator in the technical sense of the word. Most importantly, the downfall of Qaddafi started when he gave up his quest for WMDs and started working with the Bush administration in the "war on terror" and the "rebels" were most angry with the fact that he allowed the CIA to open secret prisons in the country and even helped the Americans to torture suspected Islamist terrorist trying to get out of Libya to go to Afghanistan. That is the real reason for the uprising and any other reason given is propaganda. Oh yeah, the Arabs did not like the fact that he said Arabs must acknowledge and apologize for their role in slavery that started way before the Europeans got involved.
