As a person who studies media and how it controls the minds of the masses, I naturally assumed that OWN would from the start offer content targeting the black community that did not center around coonery and bufoonery. You know, an alternative to the Viacom owned BET. I was sorely disappointed.

Great write up,

In my opinion, Oprah’s network is not “doomed”, I think it needs a fresh perspective and new leadership. If I were in the position of leading OWN Network into the future, my idea would be to make it a 24 hr talk show television. I’m not talking about Jerry Springer type talk but Programming that would adhere to world standards not putting one race as it’s sole focus.I’m talking different languages and cultures. I’m talking Africa,Asia, South America, Russia etc…

OWN is still new so I will tell Oprah not to give up just yet, it takes time for a network to build a following.Although Oprah has a big following due to her popular talk show, magazine and other entities, it’s not enough for an entire network. It will take time!! I would put some world faces, ideas and cultures in cue…

One last thought about OWN is that it should be ran and push with it’s own infrastructure.
