Good article. I do think underemployment is the new norm.
When I was a child in the 1960's our elementary teacher told us
that in the future: "There would be more people and more leisure time."
What she did not mention was it was going to be leisure time because
of either underemployment or unemployment. I wish the school system
would be honest with young people and tell them: "Don't get in debt for
a fairly useless college degree and remember you are coming of age at a
time when full time jobs are rare, so plan accordingly."
But still, this new underemployment norm benefits few & will keep most
young people on a bleak treadmill of working to pay for food and transportation
but never owning much else. Lord help us all because this new-norm is
awful.

Most Black people are underemployed. We always have been exploited and probably always will. I am reading right now this great book: http://www.amazon.com/Separate-Ways-Ella-Edmondson-Bell/dp/159139189X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322623558&sr=1-1 and I hope one day we will have a similar book which will talk about Black/White male professionals. I am building my own company because I won't work harder for the mainstream to get screwed by not being promoted, etc. I am sick of this unequal system and I don't want any part of it.
