Joe Paterno was our neighbor, living right down the street. It’s a lot different than idolizing a superstar you only see in the movies or in a magazine. Many students know Joe personally, so while he is not family to most, he is a neighbor we all admired for dedicating time, money and his life to the school and students. Unless you’re a Penn State student or alum, it’s not easy to understand. We admired him for his kindness, donations, support and integrity (which is now questionable) not just because he’s a coach of a good football team.
