it's not about eurocentric compromise words like diversity, hiphop has been sold as a street tales form of music since the nwa day's of 1988, I'm sorry to awaken those older heads who may still rever nwa, but if u boogied to it then dont act so surprised that hiphop has never moved forward from the snoop gin and jucie days and biggie smalls east coast slinging don tales of the 90's, the problem in the black community then and now contiues to be well the beat is good, but message just gets glossed over and over, until it denfines who we are to those who dont look like us. Remember those jay z fans the white college kids back in the mid 90's the kids who now have kids outheir occupying wall street? while we still continue to play debate over own demise through music.

Great write up. I struggle to tell the kids I coach that the rappers are fakes. First of all if you really in the drug game and making money, then you not going to be rapping.
The kids now don't seem to care that these rappers are fakes and just say its good music which is sad because everyone sounds the same. There is no diversity in hiphop anymore well at least anything diverse of drug dealing and killing doesn't get play.

I totally agree with you. This is a sad epidemic. Rappers who speak on real issues and music of substance get ignored (unless they cut the powers that be a check). I can go on and on but change in our communities begins with us. If black radio and other platforms that have a greater reach don't take a stand, then what hope do we have?
