BlackBeauty, you are half correct. Some of us do contribute to our condition, but you and everyone else must admit that we have a lot of help.
We do live with hate and discrimination because of the color of our skin. It is more difficult for African Americans to move from middle class, and certainly poor economic status to the bounty shared by 1-2% of Americans. I know exactly what my father meant when he stated that I would have to work twice as hard to get half as far when he sent me from rural Texas for a better education in California at 13.

As a historian I would definitely say never forget the plantation and what it symbolized in our history. The rhetoric used is inappropriate. Michael Jordon was a player 13 years ago, he’s an owner now. When he was a player he fought as a player for players. His position has changed and he is doing the same thing as an owner–fighting for the best deal. That’s why he is in the position he’s in. Players should be grateful for a 13 year deal that helped them. Using derogatory terms to reference any person or group is not a good thing.

I hope Jordon is able to stop the 7M dollar a year loss for his team. I’m sure wife number two will not leave without big bucks. 168 million is a lot to dish out–twice.

I am so glad that I held my judgement of your article until I read it. Your title is very provoking, and leads one to begin reading your article with a very agressive attitude. However, upon reading your article I totally agree with you. This is a prime example of why you do not do business with family in some instances. Because this is business, not personal. On the same note, please give Black Beauty a pass,because if I had not read your entire aricle, my comment was going to make black beauty comment sound like a compliment! Good title to bait the reader in! You know we don’t let know one mess with Michael! He earned his the hard way!

I love that you thought enough to comment, but my grandfather always taught me if you are not sure of what you are speaking of you should stay out of the conversation.

You are attacking me for decrying the very thing that you are attacking me for. Did you see Bryant Gumbel on Real Sports use the reference “modern plantation overseer? Did you read my article “Gumbel committed a Flagrant 2 foul” published on this same site one week ago challenging Gumbel’s comment. And if you understood the sarcasm of this artilce you would realize that I neither agreed with the terms modern plantation overseer or nigger and that I am supporting Jordan not pointing a finger at him.

Maybe you should take the time to re-read the article, read my 1st article and watch Bryant Gumbel’s commentary when he used the term modern plantation overseer.

Also you shouldn’t make a judgment or point a finger unless you understand that which was written Black Beauty.

Excuse me!

No matter how you feel about the NBA dispute, you use of “plantation” & “house Niiger” makes you appear ignorant, a horse & buggy mind-set, and frankly limited in thought and vocabulary!

We need to STOP making reference to “the plantation” in this day and age as well as any indication towards calling black people ni–ers, no matter how strongly you may feel!

Certainly you can make your point with out going there!

It is us who continue to keep us as second class by our constant reference to the plantation/ni–ers, not whites or others! You are the one who sounds more like a ni–er (racist whites depiction of black people) than the finger you point at Jordan.

Please step into the 21st century and move forward with more productive, dialogue.
