I have on a few occasions, but maybe it is possible that you didn't comprehend my piece. But then again I do understand your disposition; when you address me by dude, this speaks a great deal to where your spirit is. However I do wish you peace.

Dude, before you go around bashing black women for expressing their pain. You should actually READ, Sojourner Truth's Ain't I a Woman speech. It was pretty damn angry.

In time Ms. Hubert perspective may change, but for now her experience is processed as anger. While it rightfully may be pain though type of epiphany come as you analyze how you have been dealing with said issue. That being said, this was an extremely wonderful article. Black Woman vs. Black Woman... jk. Very insightful.. I dont even have to read the book now... but I probably will.

I don't think that Mrs. Hubert was speaking for herself. She was speaking for many sisters and we need to hear these stories and not only stories about Michelle Obama. I agree that it can uplift people to hear about the First Lady but it is the exception to the rule. As long as we will refuse to talk about our pain, our problems (the color cast system (exposed by Mrs. Hubert) created by the mainstream and internalized by us) the status quo will remain. As long as we won't embrace ourselves with our different shades nobody will respect us. The mainstream will continue to dictate to us what is the black beauty. There should be a place for everything in the press: uplifting stories but also exposing our problems with solutions.

Patsy:

I understand where you are coming from. I have a degree in English-Creative Writing, with a minor in African American Studies...and a Graduate Degree in African American Studies...though what you say is true...the article that Ms. Hubert wrote is personal...and it should be taken as such.

In addition, instead of going back...why can't we move forward? If anything, she could have taken the Angry Black Woman Syndrome and turned it around and did a startling piece on First Lady Michelle Obama. This woman has had to go through a lot in her position; however, I do not see her being angry.

There is nothing wrong with the word ANGER, but there are also words that can be used to counteract it such as Joy, Happiness, Love, Strength...

I think it is sad to see that some of our people don't have compassion when a sister expresses her pain and/or her anger. I will never understand why people think it is normal that the Jewish complain about what happened to them during WWII and we don't have the right to talk about slavery, Jim Crow, reparation, our economic plight, etc. We have every right to do it and we have to find solutions to our problem which can ease the pain of our people. It is healthy to express pain and anger in writing. I prefer that than people who will beat up their kids or mates because they are unemployed for instance. There is too much of that in our community and these are not healthy behaviors. We need to have compassion when a sister or a brother expresses his feelings.

Reginald: I have no idea why you spent so much time with Ms. Hubert's article. I think it is selfish of her to put her ANGER out in the world--and assume that people feel the same way that she does (especially--African American women). I mean if you are so angry, go to therapy is my suggestion.
