As a middle aged white guy, too young to witness first hand the events of the 60's, I want to put my 2 cents worth in. First, I have seen such a monumental change in race relations in my life that it is astounding. My father, raised in inner city Detroit, was one of the most prejudiced men I have ever known. But in the last 15 years of his life, his old boss, Fred, a black man, became his closest friend. He finally saw the light. I live in a neighborhood that is racially mixed. The kids play together and race doesn't matter.

Now here is where I feel I may be butting in, some white guy trying to give his advice to the black community. I was speaking to a friend of mine last week who had just retired as the president of a large teachers' union after 27 years (we have been friends for 25 years). I asked him what he thought the major problem was with the school system. He believed it was discipline in the schools. He explained that the auto dealers used to donate 5 cars a year to vocational programs but because the administration "dumped" kids with behavioral problems into the vo-ed classes the car dealers pulled out. In an incedent where a black student physically attacked a teacher and the security cop handcuffed the student, the cop was transferred to a different school. He said it was all about "saving the black male". My friend said that none of the politicians or top administrators really gave a dam about the kids, as long as they got there fat check.

If my kid's school was out of control and not letting those that wanted to learn concentrate on their studies I would raise holy hell until they got things under control. With the drop-out rate at crazy levels, I would insist that those kids that are going to disrupt the class be removed, without racial quotas and without sending them off to disrupt another class. It's hard to work and handle all of life's issues, but I would make sure that my kid had a chance to learn in a safe school where teachers were in control of the classroom. Education is key.

Finally a broken system that has a black man as a leader and is a bad system will result in bad results. If we as black people are in love with a black man running a bad, broken system then we are digging our own graves by not making demands about our needs; because you can bet that the majority if they get hurt badly will make the system to make us suffer more.

I do not see Obama as some deity in fact I see the opposite he is a trojan horse elected so that millions of the Black masses do as they are told. There was a time when parents would teach their children about the destruction of Rosewood and Tulsa race riots and how blacks were killed in each of these atrocities. And unfortunately the music of my generation has contributed to the bastardization of the education of these events. The upper class blacks do not care for the lower class and the lower class believe the upper class is white washed. As a shrinking minority that getting less and less we need to find strength in each other. That means supporting the less fortunate and not just financially and we need to stop thinking of the individual because we don't have the true numbers to do that.

I, as an African American and a proud man of color, am always bewildered by people like yourself who would minimize our history and our accomplishments. Just simply looking back, it confounds me that you donot see Blacks who were brought to this country in chains, who were able to overcome slavery "en masse," without themselves suffering annihilation at the hands of a racist majority ,a major accomplishment. I am surprised that you do not see this same enslaved race of people "en masse" was able to integrate the most powerful military force in the world, and indeed rise to the top of it ranks and hold command positions as a major undertaking worthy of admiration.

I am further baffled that you do not see as a major accomplishment, these same once enslaved people "en masse" break the chains of a sophisticated racist and segregated system and had that same system rewrite its constitution guaranteeing equal rights of those same enslaved people. It is astounding that you do not see as a major accomplishment, these same once enslaved people were able to "en masse" cause to be elected a man who looked like themselves to the highest office in this land. Oh my dear brother, look at us, we are a beautiful people, struggling and trying to do the impossible and achieving victories far from the shores of the land of our ancestors. You have yet to see the best, we as a people can accomplish. If history is any guide, however, we will do it "en masse."
