I think the whole thing is ridiculous because even though certain brands of rap have
A lot of negative imagery and such, Lots of rap is just self expression through that style of music.
( P.S. I know you are talking about hip hop music ,but hip hop consists of rap, DJing, Bboying, and the graffiti writing style... Wait I am catholic and Bboy to rap... What does that make me? )

Your so sure about what you say? Tell me, Why is it that in Cities, you cant even go on a certain side of town being white? or even black?. what is it that has kept the fire burning between races? Tell me what it is that keeps kids thinking drugs are the answer? It only makes you numb. and only for so long. You of all people should know that considering your Era. Stop being Selfish. i Know People have a right to their ways and not veery person who listens to Rap are "Brainwashed" but there are those who take lyricsa and marketting into litteral accountsin real life. That my friend, is what we need to focus on. You wouldnt want your Daughter or son to fall victim to these heinous crimes because of what someone "said"? Or because He/She was wearing the wrong color?.. Tell me what is it that drives our youth and gang members to do what they do?

you know, I have to Disagree with the majority of people here. I am a Christian person who listens to certain types of rap. there are not only tens, but tens of thousands of songs my friend that do only precess the use of drugs, prostitution, and the simple fact of not giving a damn about life. Now, there is good intentions my friend with alot of rappers these days. But the Road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Not only you, but the rappers themselves are ignorant for thinking words,or lyrics, dont affect the youth. They do, and the crime rate- of gang-related shootings and hate-crimes in America today prove that.

Hip Hop is of Satan. You have to be blind not to see it. The truth is the music doesn't glorify God/Jesus. Even if you were an atheist it is easy to see that Hip Hop is not wholesome music when it promotes materialism, sex, sexism, drugs, vioence etc. Yeah, I know not all of hip hop is like that but the majority is.

There is a lot of evidence these pop artists are demon possessed and/or channel their music from demons. Watch the documentary They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll.

What is also obvious the many Satanic or occult symbolisms in today's videos.

"Ignant" thought as it relates to hip hop/rap. I've experienced the gamut of spirituality from hip hop, from Beenie Segal's 2007 Prayer, to Anthony Hamilton's "Pass Me Over." Brad, don't trip. I've found our folks to be some of the most pious in America, but also some of the most spiritually deficient. Rap is not responsible for the lack of growth in our communities. The apples dont fall far from the trees. You can blame the "me" generation of the 1970's in America for much of the decadence that takes place today.

I think the problem Brad si the blanket statement that "all hip hop" is the devils music. Now most of you cats come from a Black church background. I came from a white church background. Back when I was coming up they did the same thing with rock music.

I can get on board with you when you say they don't do their research to an degree. Not all hip hop devalues us as Black folks. But the bad part about it is most of it DOES. So even if their message is not 100% accurate, there is a large component of truth to it.

To me the golden age of hip hop was the late 80's early 90's where you had all forms of the genre side by side selling records - gangster, backpack, party etc. You had Tribe alongside X-Clan, alongside NWA, alongside PRT, alongside Public Enemy and so forth.

So even though you had a large chunk of negative you also had a large dose of positive.

Not so today. The industry is bastardized, there are no true conscious MC's (Kanye for sure isn't), and what is left is a hollowed out version of the art form.

So in my opinion modern hip hop (the commercial side) is the devil by another name. Because it exploits our worst, diminishes our best, and leaves our people with false illusions of material gain over cultural substance.
