My grandparents told me that money says good-bye to a FOOL and people will always take care of their wants and find others to pay for their needs!

Stop all the spending.......budget.......payoff debt.......save for emergencies.......plan for retirement......build wealth!

My grandparents were born in the 1920s with neither graduating from school. However, they were very productive in society, lived debt free and currently have a net worth over $100,000 at a time when the average African American household's net worth is less than $5000.

Let's stop seeking validation from others and start valuing ourselves to change family trees!

This article represents another in a long line of our begging to get some group, organization, business or President to do something that only real power can make happen. These businesses know how much blacks spend on their products and services and have made a decision to not spend any money advertising because we will spend it with them anyway. That is smart business.

We have no economic unity about how money and power works. And our sell-out black leadership organizations are the worst beggars of all time. Have we had a national boycott of anything recently? Have our churches (which brought in over 450 billion over the last 25 years) done any business building? Do our millionaire actors, rappers, Oprah, etc created any real business enterprises that our people can redirect their money to? In my opinion, we as a people are in one of our worst states of all time in America history. Only slavery was worst.

We have vast resources but no direction or vision. We are marginalized, criminalized, and disrespected on many levels. And the egos of our black male media “leaders” is sick. Will we ever learn that power concedes nothing without a demand never did and never will.

“Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with Vision is making a positive difference.”

We thank Mike Green for his his flip side of the coin comment. To know that we blacks are spending more than $800,000.000,000.00($800 Billion) and major corporations are spending very little to attract it, tells me that we should examine and target our spending to relect a value to blacks on the whole.

That $800B can't go directly into the pockets of other blacks, because we don't produce anything, but we can spend with black owned businesses or where blacks serve in commission based positions. This would encourage more blacks to go into business and more black businesses to succeed. If we buy bling, liquor, fancy cars and hair products at least by it for a black business. Google Dr. Claude Anderson to bring this concept into the light.

The point about Black consumer purchasing power is well taken. It fails to address the missing point about Black wealth. The recent Pew Research study this year offers insight into the realities that marketers well understand: White wealth is 20 times Black wealth.

Additionally, Blacks do not need to be encouraged, by and large, to spend their consumer dollars with many major corporations. The justification of channeling marketing dollars into a very small segment of the population and an ever smaller segment of the target market for most corporations isn't made in the argument that the aggregate amount spent by Black consumers deserves greater apportionment of marketing dollars invested to attract it.

If I can spend marketing dollars effectively to grab market share of the wealthiest Americans and, at the same time, I know Black Americans (a peripheral market, not core) will follow suit, why would that market deserve greater investment? Corporate marketers aren't operating with altruistic motives. They look at data that applies to their specific target markets.

On the flip side of the coin, Black Americans spend $800B+ purchasing consumer goods while all of Black-owned businesses combined only produce $137.5B in productivity, less than 1% of GDP. Where's the investment of Black dollars into Black innovators and the process of high-growth entrepreneurship and job creation?

It always amazes me how some black people like to brag about black America’s spending power, and yet blacks tend to piss their hard earned income down a toilet on valueless consumption items like bling, liquor, fancy cars and the financing of every Asian owned hair store across the country. The clear cut majority of black income, 99.99% , is spent with firms not owned by other blacks, and these firms virtually don’t even employ any black people.
