Wow, the article sucked and the comments were worse!
An apologetic load from the author and racist comments from the peanut gallery.
Black thinks they are the victims always, in fact everything is about THEM. Just the FACTS:
There are 25 million out of work in the US, 45 million on food stamps. Thats about 1 in 6.
The black population is only 13% of the nation, whites are 72% as of the 2010 census, so lo and behold, It’s not All about Black! The entire nation is in trouble, but only black youth have apologetic editorials about how robbing and pillaging their own communities for the latest set of high end clothing and beer are a ‘social problems’ due to, of course, economic racism!
As if no one else was in trouble, but no one else did, so far, rob and pillage their neighbors in gang fashion, did they?
The percentage of home foreclosures far out weighs the Entire black population of this country. These people are sleeping on the streets and in their cars all over the US, but they do not rob and pillage their neighbors. In fact they are fighting police to allow them to sleep in their cars and working for parks to sleep in and maybe grow some food, peacefully.
Black needs to get a grip that they are not so special when it comes down to getting screwed, by anyone, including the first Black President!
Excuses, like the above article, might have been acceptable in 1969 but are now just a sickening example of dependancy. Government is not your Daddy! And Daddy and Mommy are broke anyway. Flash mobs and stealing from your own neighbors is a sick, self destructive, un-evolved, ridiculous and ruthless way to go about life and there is No Excuse, regardless if assholes like this author thinks he can give you one.

It’s obvious the black community has a severe lack of leadership from Jesse Jackson and The Reverend Al Sharpton and now from Dr Boyce Watkins. the fact is clear that these are race-baiting self serving black men who believe that Obama in the white house is bad for business so you get what we have here…race-baiting. Absolutely no one is to blame for pulling someone off a bike and beating them senseless other than the “unruly teens” that are commiting these violent beatings. I say “unruly teens” because, despite what the good doctor says, no media sources mention the OBVIOUS fact that these are in fact 100% blacks that are involved in these “flash mobs” and if it is mentioned, the liberal media make certain to say that they are “allegedly” or “primarily” black teens and almost always by a witnesses account. Dr Boyce should be ashamed of himself for such damaging drivle as it only fuels white disillusionment towards blacks. I hope these comments make you realize what a joke you black “leaders” have become, but as is typical, you’ll just write more BS about how we’re keeping you down. Sad…really sad. I do foresee black “leaders” getting involved soon though because eventually one of these “unruly teens” will be shot and killed by a shop owner or cop and then….HERE COMES THE REVEREND AL AND HIS MOB OF RACE-BAITERS! Ha! This article is too much. Pure gold. Dr. Boyce Watkins is half the reason why blacks in this country are in the problem they are in now. There is absolutely no accountability in any of his words. All this article does is blame anyone and everyone else for the crimes that the BLACK kids are causing. This is a BLACK problem. And until BLACKS accept responsibility for their actions this problem is only going to get worse. It is a chicken or the egg riddle. Black parents are breeding and having children they cannot take care of. All the while, the children they have already had are following in their parents footsteps. Public schools separated? OK, how about the black community pulls together and gets the highest public school grades for that all black school? Wouldn’t that be a great story? This will never happen. Young black men now all listen to rap and hip hop music which talks only of money, guns, women, sex, drugs and alcohol. They wear their pants around their ankles and enjoy the fact that they are “hard and tough.” To be polite and speak the English language makes you “white.” Dr. Watkins, why don’t you stop adding to this problem by trying to pass blame on everyone else? These kids have been led down the wrong path, by bad parenting and no accountability. This is a black problem, that blacks need to fix. Society has been throwing money at this problem for a long time now, and blacks keep complaining about their low social class. That’s how blacks want it! BLACKS DON’T WANT TO BE EQUAL BECAUSE THEN THEY WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT! It is easy when you have an excuse for everything. Here is a perfect example. The Jews had 6 million killed in WW2, in the 50 years that they have had Israel to call a home, they have fought 3 major wars and are an economic success. In the 150 years blacks have been free from slavery in this country, they have not made anything but excuses. NO MORE EXCUSES! STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE FOR YOUR PROBLEMS! ADMIT THAT THE BLACK COMMUNITY HAS PROBLEMS AND FIX THEM!

Newsflash…kids (of any race) doing what they are SUPPOSED to be doing isn’t a newsworthy story. Have standards gotten so low that we need to publish stories about kids who do their homework? These are CRIMINALS assembling in large groups to commit CRIMES!! Do you think the media is singling them out because they are black? I ask because you never see it mentioned anywhere in these reports that they are “black”: (you have to watch the video in every case). Perhaps the media should focus more on the white, asian, and latino groups that are doing these flash robberies…oh wait…they don’t exist. How about some accountability from black parents, community leaders, and the kid’s themselves. WHERE’S REVEREND AL? I GUESS HE WAITING FOR ONE OF THESE KIDS TO BE KILLED BY A COP OR A STORE OWNER.

When I read this, here is the between the lines:
“Black youths cannot act straight unless they’re around white people.”

Certainly this can be the only conclusion to your reprimands of a segregated school system. You don’t talk about funding, so it’s not the amount of money being spent. You don’t talk about the quality of teachers and administrators, so it’s not that. You don’t talk about the parental involvement, so we can assume you think that’s fine as well.

I disagree with your central thesis that Mayor Nutter is an embarassment to his race. Old school ‘Uncle Tom’ accusations like this went out of style after the age of Huey Newton. Futhermore, I think the kids today still have more opportunity than the kids that had the courage to sit in at lunch counters and on buses in the 50’s and 60’s. Certainly racism still exists, but not too the extent of those days.

Know this: The comments mayor Nutter made are the same comments that any loving father figure would have made. The actions of these kids would have brought shame to any family, and, to the extent that the black race is a family, these actions are an embarassment to the black race.

There is always room for Christian social justice in this world. Blaming these actions on society is not Christian social justice. Confronting these mobs and turning the tide, in the same way that firehoses and dogs were confronted in the past, is Christian social justice.
