This is one of the best articles I’ve read on this site. It describes what the government has done in the last 50 years to turn the clock back on Black equality and upward mobility. This is a perfect example of why we as a people cannot and should not depend on the government to solve our problems. If you’re ready to take action towards solving the problems in our community, click on my name.

Black Unity means financial independence and happiness

I am 25 years old, white, and from the middle class. I agree that the statistics for black america are frightening and I appreciate your article for shining a light on this issue. I agree that the present situation is the main driver for these statistics and not some rediculous generalization about blacks being lazy, etc. I also agree that the words "freedom" and "liberty" have been misplaced in our society.

I interpret that you support the welfare system and that the scaling back of welfare benefits and the philosophy behind them has greatly contributed to the problems facing black america. This is how I'm interpreting your phrase "liberty has been unhinged from justice." (please correct me if I'm wrong here). I do disagree with you here - I think that the presence of the welfare structure, in its present form, is the cause of the issues for black america.

In my understanding of the results of the civil rights movement, much of the legislature discriminating against blacks was reversed, with new legislation to benefit blacks (such as changes in hiring practices, etc.). On paper and in spirit I think this was a good thing, but in reality the racial content in legislation remained (favoring one group over another). This segregative nature has had unintended consequences, such as the disastrous perception by many that blacks are somehow inferior and "need" government assistance. I think that the definition of freedom must include freedom from government, and that depending on government for support leaves you at the mercy of government and their whims.

I think the failed US education system is a victim of this very phenomenon. I'd like to point you to the book "Liberty Defined" by Ron Paul, who's philosophy is the origin of the tea party (before it unfortunately was infiltrated by GOP and mislabeled by the media). I'd very much like to know your thoughts on this book, as its material covers precisely the topics discussed in your article. Thanks for posting this thought provoking article.
