This article is wonderful. As a black man I have to say that it did touch me. To the author, your article was on point. As a man I know what we, as black men are going through, and yes we are very much opened to talk about our true feelings. I know I am. There is nothing more beautiful than a African American woman (I am not saying that AA women do not respect AA men, but I mention AA women becuase that is the woman I prefer)that repects her man, especially the way the author described and expounded on the word repect in her article. It is one of the things that turns us (we African American men)on. To the author again, i nominate you to have begin a show talking about African American Relationship, with your testimony as the means to start it off. Well, written.

To Natalie...

We men are eager to talk to you, all you have to do is ask the right questions and start off the conversation or question by bringing up the word respect. Even the Lord desires to be repected. Proverbs 9;10 says the FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM: AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLY IS UNDERSTANDING. The word fear in this verse means respect. With the husband being the head and the foundation of the family his role in the family is therefore somewhat synonymous with God, though the husband is not God. Ephesians 5;25 is written to show this similitude...HUSBANDS, LOVE YOUR WIVES, EVEN AS CHRIST ALSO LOVED THE CHURCH, AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR IT." Finally, Proverbs 4;7 tells us that WISDOM IS THE PRINCIPLE THING; THEREFORE GET WISDOM: AND WITH ALL THY GETTING GET UNDERSTANDING.

But since wisdom and understanding comes from God, the question that needs to be asked of people who say they want to get married is...DO YOU KNOW GOD?. God made marriage, that is why it is referred to as HOLY MATRIMONY, and it belongs to Him. Nevertheless, if the man and woman want to be married, but they both or one of them is/are not saved nor filled with the Holy Ghost, and do not have a relationship with God, why then should they be married? This is the reason why the divorce rate is so high, because many are not seeking Jesus Christ. Everything goes back to God. Don't be so quick to believe unsaved people who say their marriage is good. The question (to unsaved married folks) is what are you doing that is not of God, but of sin, that is bringing "fun" into your marriage, which will eventually bring about damagaing and hurtful results if the sin continues?

Wonderful article! I have long desired to begin hearing "the whole story" of our black men. I look forward when more will be open to sharing their experiences so that we may stop assigning utilitarian value to their lives where we love them for who they are and not what they d for us and society as a whole.
