"some slaves actually bought their freedom as well as the freedom of their wives and children" --

That's not the point! While I agree that Michelle, the GOP, liberals, and all others are certainly entitled to their opionion, some of us are tired of insensitive (or illogical) references to slavery for the purpose of scoring cheap political points.

It's not as if marriage under SLAVERY yielded the type of conditions that allowed slave children to grow up, pursue a good education, land a nice job, and buy a house. Slavery was a horrible, tortuous, unspeakably violent, evil, oppressive, soul-crushing institution that robbed people of happiness, hope, security, joy, faith, and self-worth. Therefore, if it is invoked to make some absurd point of superiority relative to the current marriage rate, then it is an inappropriate reference. They are entitled to their opinion, and we are entitled to view their opinion as absurdly foolish.

Slave families were broken up and sold separately on a regular basis. Where is the evidence that there were more two-parent families under slavery? History does confirm that slaves were treated as chattel, beasts of burden, with no rights or opportunities. Families were broken up on a regular basis. The children were treated as calves, or worse. It is ironic, and pathetic, that Bachmann shouts “Freedom” as a rally call.

Julian:

I tend to agree with Nick & John. I'm not sure of your motives to write your article however, regardless of Ms. Bachmanns' contributions, program support initiatives, and political status; her rant about Blacks & Slavery will bite her sverely during the 2012 campaign why? (She will not get 1 single Black vote; maybe republicans but few if any, Democrats. There have been continous rants and negative views expressed by dem & Rep officials regarding President Obamas' strategies and policies however, the main points are that "Jobs; Economy, and Health Care" will detrermine the next Presidential Election.

In further Defense of Bachmann
(For all of my haters)....
Once again, we see the blind brothers refuse to realize that the main point was to state that it is not a sin for GOP candidates to express their views on so called black issues. Secondly you guys also neglect the obviuos fact that Obama is going out of his way to dodge "black" issues repeatedly. As for the pledge and Bachmann not reading it, i guess Obama voting the wrong way 7 times in the IL Statehouse and voting Present another 100+ times was a better move. You brothers need to put down the cobbler and see the truth. If Bachmann will sign a pledge for a van full of voters, what did Obama pledge to Ted Kennedy and the Gay agenda special intrest donors to get elected?

Bachmann's clinic getting federal money for christian counseling is no different from Rev. Goodfoot getting Federal tax breaks and offerings and tithes and whatever else they can steal. And for the record, this is not an attack on the black church but facts are facts. There are good black churches and then there are outright scam artists who have been conning poor, innocent people for decades. When Preachers parade white democratic candidates in church to seem "in touch" with the simple folk, I dont hear a drop about the seperation of Church and State. Just ask the board of the slimy Bishop Eddie Long. Or Jesse Jr. who got caught trying to buy Obama's Senate seat or Jesse Sr. whose now got babby mamma drama. If we made Charlie Rangel or Cory Booker sign a pledge and stick to it, maybe Bachmann wouldnt have to address all the black issues on her own... Wake up Brothers Follow me http://twitter.com/hiphoppatriots

Now that I have picked my jaw up off the floor...you can't be serious... 1> The Pledge - It is not relavant who wrote the pledge, it is relevant that she signed it, stating that she agrees with the contents. We don't have the prvilege of signing everything we believe, but when such an opportunity comes along, ANY politician should be exceptionally careful. If she were to be elected, would she read treaties before she signs them, would she check the fine print on laws before she enacts them? I honestly don't believe she agrees with the slavery comment, but thats not the real issue...its everybody selling their soul to whoever promises to bring a vanload of voters to the polls...READ before you sign....is it too much to ask...the comment was in the first few lines...

As far as her husband's Christian practice...you are correct in that he should have the right to treat people for what they request...but thats not what the fuss is about either....no one is attempting to take away his rights, no one is claiming he doesn't have the right. What the claim is, at least as I see it, is that he is using unorthodox methods to "treat" what the scientific community has deemed is not a disease, defect, or disorder. Outside of that debate, I am more interested if he is actually receiving government subsidies for religious treatment, or if anyone else is for that matter. Before you label me, I am a Christian, and I believe that homosexuality is against God's Law, period. But I am also a firm believer in the separation of church and state... and short of tax liability, no religiously based business should benefit from government cash.

Julian- No one is concerned with Michele Bachmann except you and me. My fascination with her,is her ability to convince anybody to donate to any campaign for any office she is campaigning for, as I understand she is a prolific campaign fund raiser. As for you Thy Brother,I don't believe for one minute you are serious about this article. Did you write this as a prank or a dare maybe? If you get one serious positive comment, I will set my hair on fire. DON'T BE DISTRACTED BY THE LAME ATEMP TO CONCERN YOURSELF IF THIS WOMAN.
