Never have been and I never will be. Perhaps, if the book used the n-word once or twice to refer to Jim it wouldn’t be so controversial, but to use nigger over 200 times throughout the book. It’s like Mark Twain was trying to beat the reader over the head with its usage. Maybe the book should’ve just started off with a first page full of people just saying “nigger, nigger, nigger” or something to that effect.
