Some valid points in this article but his perspective on our community as a whole seems skewed. I believe he has bought the hype that comes with the media blasting of all things negative in Black America. And the fact is we can never distance ourselves from the reality of why we are who we are, where we are in America and what that means to our development and growth as a people. We are still overcoming, have been overcoming... Talk about a paradigm... I think resilience is the legacy of Black folk. We take bull**** and create brilliance. There are no more Martins or Malcolm? Maybe not in your vision... But in mine, there are many. Greater men even... One may even be sitting behind prison walls (as Malcolm did) right at this moment. We all recognize that circumstances, choices, family life is bad right now --- but do circumstances define our worth as a people? Do the current circumstances convey our potential as a people? We can never forgot -ESPECIALLY in the face of this present day crisis- WE have survived worse. We are still dealing with the effects of Mental Slavery and those chains are not easily broken.

As for me, I will never accept that this is our end. We are too strong, too beautiful, too brilliant for it to be. Watch us rise from the ashes... one never knows who or what the catalyst will be. Real Talk, we are but one moment away from change. I live each day believing that "change is always possible." The delight I received by President Obama's election was not only in the fact that he is black but that his success was a clear signal that a collective movement is possible. The only question is... Who will lead the change army... in your neighborhood... my neighborhood? So, let me loudly disagree Mr. James. We are not on our way out, we are on our way up... Again. and Again... And again. Because history has proven... we rise. In the meantime, each one reach one, hand over hand, LIFT PEOPLE LIFT.
