Thank you very much Dr Boyce, It was great reading your article and to finally see in print the things I have believed for years and indeed the things my parents also believed and taught me growing up. In our house it was education first and everything else later and their wisdom has served me well, I was both a university level basket ball player and a singer in a campus band but I never doubted that the most important thing in my life was my education and my parents made sure I didnt and I intend to teach my children the same thing.

In my view exactly the same points you made can be said about music, a few make it to the top while the vast majority are left to pick up the pieces of their lives. Our community needs to reconsider the return we get for our huge investment in sports and music in human lives.
