This President Doesn’t Need to be in New Orleans.

(ThyBlackMan.com) On Monday LSU will play Clemson in the National Championship game. As an avid football fan, I’m absolutely excited that my team as had an amazing year, however I must say I’m not happy that the president will be in my city…again.  There is too much going on in the world that is of his making …how does he have time for a football game. The Iran situation is something none of us should take lightly. American soldiers are being shipped out, and this man wants to be in the Superdome for a football game. Puerto Rico has been devastated by the worst earthquake the island has seen in decades, but no address has been given from the leader of this country. The people need to know they are not facing destruction alone, the possibility of putting their babies in harm’s way alone and feeling neglected by the leadership of America. This is embarrassing.  Instead he’s going to waste tax dollars with amped security by coming to this football game.

There are clear issues in this country that would lead one to think the president would be bogged down in work trying to move the country in a better direction. The welfare of the American people is clearly not a priority as too much appears to be a lack of empathy and concern. However, there is another reason I wish he weren’t coming here. He was recently here trying to influence the governor’s race only to be sown Louisiana will make its own decision regarding leadership, and his assistance is not welcome. Football is one of the things in this state that can bring everyone under one roof without too much of a fuss. His presence effects this dynamic as politics will enter into the equation. The focus needs to be on the game and the teams involved…not some political agenda.

Lastly, I will say given the demographics politically, and by race, of New Orleans why would he want to come to this city for any reason. The president has made may statements that paint him as a racist. Black people don’t seem to sit too well with him; in coming to New Orleans he’s coming to a city/parish that didn’t vote for him and whose population is one he doesn’t respect. If you think this is far fetched just look at the presidents track record of addressing black people and other people of color. He’s by far disrespectful. People come to New Orleans for the culture of the city…it’s what makes it a great venue for big events and games. We are a large part of the influence of said culture and city. Many of his stances politically says he cares nothing about the people of New Orleans. Many of us wish he wasn’t going to be in our dome.

This is not about disrespect it’s about the space to be honest. There are supporters of this administration that love to remind people like me that I should respect the office of the president. Okay, but when Obama was in office did you follow that same advice? If the answer is honestly no…please stop trying to silence my right as a citizen to express my disappointment in this administration. He is assisting in the culture that continues to rip this country apart and is constantly seen in spaces that could bring us together without adding anything to the space.

What we need him to do is respect the office he holds and realize he is responsible to the citizens of the Unites States. He needs to check on his citizens in Puerto Rico with genuine concern, he should think about the soldiers that will die fighting a war he’s starting without council, and he should consider the decisions he’s made thus far that hurt the American people every day. I’m thinking he should head home and do his job verses attending this football game.
