(ThyBlackMan.com) Working 9 ‘til 5, as Dolly Parton sang, what a way to make a living! There are plenty of us out there who spend more than 8 hours a day in the office; in fact, 9 ‘til 5 sounds like a dream when you’re used to working over every day, and more people than ever are working longer days.

But getting up every day, putting your suit on, jumping on the subway and mentally preparing yourself to do it all again tomorrow… there’s a reason why people call it the rat race. It can be extremely boring, and you can feel yourself falling deeper and deeper into a corporate-controlled life.

Don’t fear! You can actually escape this, with a little bit of tact and a strong I’m-never-working-9-’til-5-again attitude. Here’s how.

Monetize your hobbies

OK, sometimes it’s just good to do what you love because it’s fun. Monetizing your hobbies can be a dangerous game, and you don’t want to end up hating what you used to enjoy because now you’re doing it as a means of getting an income, but this doesn’t always have to be the case.

Think about what you really like doing, such as writing or creating something. Why not do these things, and sell them to others on a platform like Etsy? You could find that eventually it provides you with a full-time income, and you’re doing what you love every single day, whilst getting paid for it!

Get a blog

Blogging is another way to earn a decent income, and once you’ve got a fair bit of traffic on your site, you could find that you’re getting a lot more cash than you imagined. Think about a subject that piques your interest, and start writing about it whilst networking with those who would want to read it.

Whether you get your income from featuring guest posts on your blog or using ads, there are many ways to earn a bit of cash without compromising on the quality of the user experience. What have you got to lose by setting up a site, and seeing whether you can get a following together?

Work freelance

In the modern world, there are more opportunities than ever to work freelance. Whatever it is that you’re interested in, from photography to writing, there is somebody out there who will give you good cash for your services. Set up a few freelance jobs on weekends, and see whether it earns you enough to go permanent.

The main thing to remember is that although it can be difficult to get going as a freelancer, it does afford you a lot of freedoms that office workers simply don’t have. You can choose which jobs you’d like to do, when you’d like to do them, and when you just want to have a day off. Pretty cool, huh?

Speak to your boss about working from home

There’s a working from home revolution at the moment, and more people than ever are avoiding the commute to the office for a few days a week (as well as being able to sit in their pyjamas all day, so, winning). All you really need is a laptop, and a little bit of motivation to get you through.

If you think that you could work from home and still meet your deadlines, then talk to your boss about your options. This helps you to escape the overwhelming 9 ‘til 5 feeling, and it also gives you a bit of freedom to do your work on your terms. Striking a balance between being at the office and working from home is key!

Think about investment

Investment is another way to make money long-term, if you have the cash to put into it now. Whether you want to opt for dividends and giving the stock market a spin, or you’d prefer to opt for cryptocurrency, there are plenty of things worth considering to get more out of the money that you have.

It has been said that Bitcoin Trader is the best Spanish trading software, but there are plenty of options out there. If you’ve never dabbled in investment before, then it’s a good idea to do some research online into your options, or to speak to somebody who knows what’s what in the world of your chosen medium.

Tutor on your speciality

If you’ve got some great knowledge in a certain field, then why not use this to earn yourself some cash? All you need to do is find a site that would allow you to find some students, and you’ll be well on your way to tutoring for cash. Of course, you need to be qualified and confident to do this.

Not only would it help you to get a great income – the hourly rate for tutors is pretty high, and you can tutor over Skype or another medium if you’d like to do it from home – but you’ll also be passing on some invaluable skills to others. It’s a pretty wholesome way to earn some cash, right?

Rent out a room on Airbnb

Perhaps you’re one of those lucky people who has an empty room in your house or apartment, and you live somewhere that is pretty desirable for tourists and other visitors? Well, you could be sitting on a goldmine, so why not put it up on Airbnb or another platform, and see whether you could get some cash?

You could also rent it out long-term, but however you decide to do it, there is a lot of cash to be made from property. If you’re renting from a landlord, ensure that you check whether or not you can do this before you go ahead and list it on any sites, as you don’t want to run into any legal trouble from doing so.

So…

If you want to avoid the 9 ‘til 5 life, then give these things a go. What do you have to lose? In fact, you’ve got a lot to gain! Good luck!
