(ThyBlackMan.com) Your situation won’t change until you shift your mindset.  We’ve heard our favorite motivational speakers, television evangelist and pulpit preachers talk about the power of shifting our mindset, to think more positive about things that affect our life, in a negative way.  After we’ve virtually high-fived our motivational speaker and shouted “Amen preacher,” it’s time to face reality and we go back and still operate with a negative mindset about our situation.

Here are 7 ways to shift your mindset:

1. Make shifting your mindset apart of your lifestyle. If you are constantly checking your thoughts, you can easily shift your mindset, daily.  The more you keep those negative thoughts inside of your mind, the more damage it will do once you finally let it out.

2. Practice the Law of Attraction. Seek gratitude in every area of your life, this will attract positive thoughts and experiences in your life.  Instead of complaining, be grateful.  Instead of thinking that you’d be better off with having more, be grateful for what you have now.  The Law of Attraction teaches us the philosophy that, “Positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life (Wikipedia).”

3. Change how you talk about yourself and others. The bible says in Luke 6:45, “……For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”  So change or shift the way you speak about yourself and others.  If you talk negatively about yourself or your current situation shift your mindset and start speaking more positively about yourself and over your situations.

4. Get out of your comfort zones. Although it may be scary trying something new, do it anyway.  Getting out of your comfort zones can shift your mindset in a whole new way.  Look at Will Smith who got out of his comfort zone being on land and jumped out of a flying airplane, which shifted how he viewed life, overall.  You don’t have to do something as drastic as jumping out of an airplane, but just do something that scares you.

5. Create new habits. If you get rid of negative habits (smoking, drinking, clubbing too often, etc.), you have to replace those negative habits with something positive or you will easily fall back into those habits.  If you excessively drink alcohol to deal with your pains in life, once you stop drinking, you’ll need to replace drinking with something positive when you have those urges to drink.  If you’re trying to save money due to your bad spending habits, you’ll need to replace going to the mall every weekend, with something new.

6. Control only what you can control. We all feel the need to control and plan every detail of our lives.  When obstacles arise, we curse the universe and our existence in it.  You can shift your mindset by simply being in control of what you can control in that very moment.  You can’t control a natural disaster so why believe that you must have done something horrible to cause it.  Control only what you can control.

7. Celebrate your wins. We will go on and on about the bad things that are happening in our lives and tell anyone who will listen about our woe is me problems.  We find it so difficult to put that same energy into celebrating our wins.  You can simply shift your mind by taking the focus off of and using all the energy to focus on what all went wrong with something and instead, celebrate your wins in life.  You earned that victory so celebrate yourself.

Shifting your mindset is a habit that you can input into your lifestyle daily.  Depending on your source of negative thinking, you need to find ways to think positively, no matter the cause or situation.  This will add fullness to your life and new perspectives and outlooks that you could’ve never seen or imagined before.  Get out of your own way and start thinking more positively in all that you do and say.
