(ThyBlackMan.com) Social media has been a part of my life ever since the heyday of The Old MySpace and I’ve seen the positives and the negatives of social media which has definitely helped me understand social media more from a personal standpoint.

Here are 5 things that I hate about social media.

1. Too Much Coonery – Even though I personally don’t use the term coon very much because the word has become so overused in the black community today, but the fact of the matter is that social media has become a breeding ground for coons who either disrespect black men/black women to “justify” their self-hatred of being into an interracial relationship aka swirling. Another form of coonery that’s very prevalent on social media nowadays is when you see videos of either two black men or two black women fighting against one another and I absolutely hate these types of videos so bad they make me wanna vomit. One last form of coonery that’s prevalent on social media is when some black people use it to say and do things that are to the detriment of the black community via engaging in worthless debates about who we are and all this other nonsensical stuff.

2. Too Much Opportunism – One of the biggest things that I personally hate about social media nowadays is when some black people especially those in the hypocritical and condensing “conscious community” like Brother Polight and Irritated Genie use it as a crutch to say and do things on social media only for the sole purpose of opportunistically enriching themselves at the expense of the black community. There are also other black folks that opportunistically enrich themselves at the expense of the black community by exploiting the black community through “donations” on social media.

3. Too Much Fake News – Another thing that I hate about social media that there’s way too much fake news on social media when you scroll down your personal feed after you login to your social media account, you’ll immediately see that your personal feed is littered with fake news that serves as nothing more but a distraction from the real issues affecting the black community via police violence, gentrification, school-to-prison pipeline, and mass incarceration.

4. Too Many Catfishes – Another one of the biggest things that I personally hate about social media nowadays is that there are too many catfishes on social media because if you communicate with a person that you believe is real on social media, but when you meet the person, the person looks absolutely nothing like their profile picture on social media. Catfishes can be very dangerous if you’re not careful. My suggestion would be to find out the other person’s real identity before they could fool you on social media.

5. Lack Of Outrage Regarding Other Groups Of Black People – One of the biggest things that greatly pisses me off about social media so much nowadays is that when a black man is killed either by colonial imposed horizontal violence in the hood or colonial violence in the form of police brutality, the larger black community will hold candlelight vigils, marches, protests, and funerals for them. But when other groups of black people are killed by either horizontal violence or by the police, the larger black community is incredibly silent especially on social media and this lack of outrage from the larger black community when other black people are killed greatly infuriates me.

6. Social Media “Revolutionaries” – The main type of “revolutionary” I personally can’t stand are the social media “revolutionaries” who sit behind a computer all day threatening, harassing, and ganging up on people who are not gonna always agree with every word that comes out of their mouth. Not only that, they also sit behind a computer all day and complain about stuff that’s happening in our community, but won’t even go out and fight for their community let alone going into the hood doing good things like “Feed The Hood”.

The Conclusion – The point I wanted to make when I wrote this article is that social media can be either a benefit or a curse to you based on how you use it because not everything that’s on social media is good at all.
