(ThyBlackMan.com) Now it is confirmed (from alleged insiders) that the Nokia 8.1 will be marketed as Nokia Phoenix and HMD is ready for the smartphone’s global launch. The phone is already available in China as X7 and a bunch of leaked images of the phone has also appeared online.

With a tagline “Expect More”, the Nokia 8.1 aka Nokia Phoenix will be launched with Android 9 Pie on board. The device’s big screen features a notch and the body is wrapped by a metal frame on sides. The phone is expected to sport a 6.18-inch full HD PureDisplay. The display supports HDR10 content at the aspect ratio of 19:9.

For selfies, this phone features a 20MP shooter on the front. On the back side of the phone, there will be a dual camera setup with Zeiss optics. The megapixel count for the rear camera is impressive and it will be a 12MP + 13MP setup. The camera on Nokia 8.1 is powered by artificial intelligence, so we can expect that it will feature Google Motion and some other AI-based camera features we have seen in other smartphones that utilize a neural processing unit to learn and recognize patterns.

In the Nokia 8.1, HMD global has put Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 SoC. It means the phone is less likely to hit the premium price range with this hardware. There will be two variants based on the RAM and storage capacity. The leaked images show that the Nokia Phoenix will be available in 4GB and 8GB RAM options. That said, the smartphone will also bring two storage options including 64GB and 128GB.

As far as battery life is concerned, Nokia phones are known to perform well in this particular area. For the 8.1, the company has decided to include a 3500mAh battery. Given the display and performance capabilities, the battery should last not more than a day. According to the marketing material, Nokia will claim two-day battery life citing the power optimization features of Android 9 Pie and Snapdragon 710’s AI capabilities. The Nokia 8.1 will also support fast charging.

Other than the camera, there’s a fingerprint sensor on the Nokia 8’s back. One of the best things about Nokia smartphones is that they feature a neat software experience. For the new Nokia 8.1 aka Nokia Phoenix, the company has chosen Android One, the unmodified version of the Android operating system. This software strategy allows smartphone makers to deliver a consistent experience. It also enables smartphones to receive more security updates from Google. The software was primarily designed for entry-level smartphones and now it is also being used in the mid-range Android phones as well.

With all these features and hardware power, the Nokia 8.1 appears to be a decent phone that offers a bigger screen, an AI-powered octa-core processor, an impressive front camera and dual-camera set up on the back. The smartphone also packs face unlock feature, ambient light sensor, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. What’s more interesting is the fact that Nokia is not ditching the 3.5mm audio jack. The phone sports a headphone jack and it also supports microSD card, so if you are looking for a mid-range phone that sports a bigger screen, clear audio, and a lot of storage capacity, the Nokia 8.1 won’t disappoint you.

The leaked images suggest that the Nokia 8.1 Phoenix will be available in three color options red, blue, and silver. Nokia, under HMD Global, has once again revived the decade-old conversations about the beauty and durability of its products. It seems the company has just moved its attention to mid-range products and is not ready to take risks at this particular phase. Smartphone makers like HTC have stepped into the higher price range smartphone segment, but Nokia is probably waiting for more people to realize that the company is back in the smartphone business. Nokia hasn’t commented on the leaked details, so it would be best to take the information with a pinch of salt.
