(ThyBlackMan.com) When I was growing up back in the day, I used to absolutely love playing the living daylights out of not only the old NES home console, but especially the old Sega Genesis home console where there were so many great games that I definitely enjoyed playing. I truly miss those days.

Here are my top 5 favorite Sega Genesis Games

1. Streets Of Rage 2 – I remember often playing this game when I was younger and my favorite character to play from this game was a black character Skate who was the younger brother of the protagonist from the previous game in the other black character in Adam. Even though Skate didn’t hit the hardest, he made up for it with his amazing speed on the rollerblades. I would not only beating down the baddies with Skate, but I enjoyed seeing him jump behind an opponent and keep hitting him on the head until he/she died. I loved doing that move on Becky the most in that game.

2. Sonic 2 – This is actually my favorite Sonic game because it not only had a new character in Tails, but the stages were so detailed and looked absolutely amazing. I loved running straight through the enemies as well as running through those loops to get rings, defeating more enemies, or progressing further in the stages. I had a record in my family for the most rings in a Sonic stage with over 300 in the Casino Night Zone in this game until my youngest brother broke that record several years ago with 492 rings in Sonic Adventure for The Game Boy Advance.

3. Gunstar Heroes – When I first remember playing this game, I was immediately impressed with the gameplay because it looked so similar to the run-n’-gun gameplay of The Contra Series. The game also had various weapons that I could choose from Force, which fires rapid bullets, Lightning, which pierces through enemies with straight lasers, Chaser, which fires stars at enemies, and Flame, the most powerful weapon in the game which is a very powerful flamethrower. The stages looked so amazing and the stages were very tough. This game was definitely one of the toughest Sega Genesis games I’ve ever played.

4. Contra: Hard Corps – Out of all the Sega Genesis games that I’ve played over this years, Contra: Hard Corps was by far the absolute toughest Sega Genesis game I’ve ever played because of the immense gameplay and extremely tough stages to beat. They stayed true to their origins by having the super shot, the 3-way shot, and the most powerful weapon in The Contra Universe which is the laser shot. The game also had several different endings as well as secret bosses you can only fight by going to secret areas of certain stages. The one hit and you die element was also in the game which made the game even more tougher to beat than Contra III: The Alien Wars.

5. Golden Axe – I remember playing this game back in the day because it was on the Sega Genesis 6-Pak cartridge compilation that had other games on it such as Columns, Revenge Of Shinobi, Sonic The Hedgehog, Streets Of Rage, and Super Hang-On. This game was very enjoyable as there were three playable characters (tall guy in blue tights, Amazon looking woman with red bra w/ red tights, and an elderly Dwarf looking guy). The gameplay was very good and I love beat-em-up games that have mechanics like this one in which you slice them with the sword or axe, hit them on top of the head with the sword/axe handle and either kick or throw them a few yards away from you. This will always be one of my favorite Sega Genesis games.

The Conclusion – Even though Sega has fallen off the radar when it comes to creating new consoles, but they will always do their best to make new games that are enjoyable to play like they did with The Sega Genesis back in the 1990s.
