( Oral hygiene is without a doubt one of the most important aspects of anyone’s life. Without your teeth, it can be extremely difficult to eat certain food and speak properly. Of course, you have the option of getting dentures, but by the time you get all your teeth pulled you are looking at thousands of dollars, not to mention the cost of the dentures. With all that being said, this is why it is imperative to teach your children how to properly brush and floss their teeth right from an early age. While the process isn’t easy, it isn’t entirely impossible and below you will learn some tips and trick that will help you teach your children to brush and floss properly.

Develop A Routine And Stick To It

As a parent, you probably already know that children thrive on routine. Well, developing a routine devoted directly to oral hygiene won’t be any different. Teaching your children to brush and floss after every meal is an excellent place to start, but your primary goal should be to get your children used to cleaning their teeth in the morning and before bed at night.

In order to get your child used to this routine you will have to monitor them during the mornings and nights as they brush and floss. However, telling them a story, listening to music, or simply talking to them while they are brushing and flossing can be an excellent way to get them interested in the process. Before you know it, waking up and brushing and flossing their teeth will be like clockwork.

Get Assistance From The Dentist

There really aren’t many kids out there that like visiting the dentist’s office and this is because each visit is usually related to pain and suffering. However, if you get your child used to visit an office on a regular basis this can be a great way for them to overcome their fear. Take them in for routine visits every year just to make sure that they get acclimated to visiting the office. In addition to this, great establishments like Birch Dental in Vancouver, BC can teach your children tips and techniques that will help them better care for their teeth. These great doctors will be able to also spot problems ahead of time, which can save your child’s teeth in the future.

Use A Timer

You probably don’t need a time to make sure that you brush your teeth for as long as you need to, but this doesn’t mean that it won’t help your children. One of the best ways to make sure that your child is brushing his or her teeth the entire time is to set an egg timer for two to three minutes. You can even show your child how to set this timer, so they can monitor their own brushing sessions, as egg timers are extremely easy to operate.

Set Good Examples

If you truly want your child to practice good oral hygiene, you will need to start when they are very young. Start by setting good examples, brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing daily. Once your child catches on that you practice good oral hygiene, they will want to follow in your footsteps. When you child becomes old enough to hold a toothbrush, give them one and watch how they respond. By the time your child reaches the age of three or four, she should be able to practice these techniques almost perfectly.
