(ThyBlackMan.com) We have not seemed, as a people, to understand why the need for unity is great. It seems we don’t quite understand that one thing oppressors sought was a way to separate our people, and disfunction was the best method. If we can’t work together we are no longer a threat. With that being said the white people that would oppress us, and others, have done a splendid job of planting the seeds of distrust, and dissension, to the point that we destroy each other. We are not able to handle issues, and disagreements, without trying to put knives in each other’s backs, and hearts. Unfortunately, this is a battle that has been with us since the plantation, and we must all take account of ourselves individually if we are to heal collectively. The fighting amongst leadership when they feel a leader has gone to far, they disagree, or they have caused injury works its way down to the people and the fight becomes devastating. At some point we need to recognize the tactics used to destroy us, and find a different method to deal with our people.

Dr. Umar Johnson is a source of controversy among many black scholars, leaders, and the people in general. Many have questioned if he really has a doctorate, if he has been stealing money from the people under the guise of building a school, and many have wondered if any of his credentials are valid. Some label him a charlatan amongst our people. Whether or not you agree with every position Dr. Umar Johnson takes he is a threat to the establishment, and yes, he does have a doctorate. He’s a threat because he makes an argument that could impact the prison pipeline. He looks at the effects of medicating our young boys in school, focuses on mental health, and is willing to fight the establishment for their right to education.

For those brothers and sisters that had a hand in him having to stand trial, to defend his license, before the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology they must ask themselves are they willing to take up his work, and was the issue the people seem to have with him handled properly. I am in no ways implying that Dr. Umar Johnson is without fault in areas that the people have concern, he has had serious lapses in judgment, and didn’t handle the doctorate inquiry well at all. With all of that being said…his position on homosexuality in the black community, and interracial racial relationships add what makes him a threat. Whether we like him or not contributing to the establishment taking him down was not a wise choice, but it wouldn’t be the first time scholars and leaders have tried to destroy each other.

It important to remember the reason the authorities were able to get Marcus Garvey is because some black people turned him over. Fighting over ideology, and what would be the best course for black people, and he was betrayed by his own. Garvey was obviously a threat. He advocated leaving America, supporting each other, and dealing with each other as he saw white people as detrimental to blacks. If only we could question the leaders of the past, W.E.B. DuBois included, and ask them if there could have been a better way of managing all of their ideas that would have put the people first verses their egos. Even the greatest of our minds have fallen victim to trap of division. Some have allowed themselves to be used as agents to help silence those considered as threats.

The bottom line is no one wins when leaders, and scholars decide that they can’t deal with issues that concern the people without destroying one another. There is always more than one method to get things done so leadership must find a way to put egos aside and work together. The lack of unity at the top spreads throughout the community like a disease. Those that would hold the title of leadership, regardless of capacity, can’t speak to the masses about unity while they are willing to turn their own people over to those that would destroy us. The people must realize even if you can’t stand Dr. Umar Johnson…turning him over to those that would oppress all of us does more harm than good. This cycle of self-destruction must end if we are to truly achieve the unity that can heal, and uplift, our people.

Hmmmm. Without delving too deep, Mr. Carmichael:

    1) I, along with the majority, believe that hatred certainly shouldn’t be anyone’s agenda. It should, however, be understood that with any message shared by a public figure, or anyone for that matter, one has the option of taking what they want from said message and leaving the rest. An example can be found in my response to your aggressive post as I have chosen to respond to what I want and not do so with the remainder. Get it?!

    2) FYI- Self-hate can be rooted in and due to many different things; Similarly, it has the ability to manifest itself in many different ways, but ultimately has to do with lack.. lack of awareness, lack of identity, etc.

    3) Psychologists? Physiologists? You mentioned both but I believe that you were referring to the former profession, which is filled with qualified people that are critical for change, especially in our current climate. Furthermore, I have colleagues and friends, alike, that are are not only highly capable but also “trendsetting” in their ability to tailor their approach according to the needs of the population(s) that they are serving.

    4) Lastly, community for some means more than “black study buddies” and many of us see beyond ourselves and our “neighborhoods.” To this end, we view ourselves as agents of change, charged with tasks that have the potential to affect the whole. More importantly, we view serving in various capacities as our duty.

–But, Im gone. Good day 🙂

Elms said it best, for me as a libertarian I share much of what is on his mine. Call me a Coon if you may, but I’m not going to support or even leave set aside and watch Killmonger as he drags his insane hatred ideology, cursing many of our brothers and sisters. Hatred may be your agenda but not mines. Get this fam, he doesn’t even have a school to begin with.

Self Hater? Because he has a PHD?

He has a PHD in Psychology/Masters in Psychology, thats not exactly rocket science, nor is it “trend setting” or even to the least extent rare. With Women (Black) of all possible types, men, foreigners, to A.I, that field will be beyond overcrowded in 10 years anyway. What do physiologists do that is so important to the U.S economy that they can’t be replaced? I don’t see why you are “amazed”.

I’m sick of the headless “woke” ideology that not “agreeing” or even a condemning a brother reeks of “self hatred”. With the exception of my black study buddies/mentees/family and possible physical neighborhood there is no such thing as a “community”. We artificially had to do this in the pre and during 1970 era, but now, no I AM MY OWN MAN with close associates.

My community for now I count on 2 hands, not in the millions, and certainly not a hate-mongering, “bed-wench” screaming type bipolar psychologist that doesn’t have a DAMN thing to offer except the “Homosexual Agenda” and the BIG BAD WHITE MAN and “agent feminists”.

I’d complement him on his school to say the least.

The one that doesn’t exist after 6 years….

Boy, oh boy! Let me begin by expressing just how disheartening it is to witness the eagerness of people, especially those of color, to vilify their own. Is it wrong to question an individual regarding their credentials? Absolutely not. However, it is suspicious as to why anyone would dedicate their time and energy to wanting to prove someone to be a liar or a fraud while being armed with zero factual evidence. That begs the question, why? Why would we not celebrate someone who is devoted to improving our communities, primarily our youth? Why would we rush to join in on the creation and spread of “comical” internet banter and memes that seek to discredit someone, especially without a solid basis to do so? Why do we feel the need to question our own on their academic achievements and, yet, overlook others who might be questionable in both credentials and actions but look different than us? Is it too preposterous of an idea for us to wrap our heads around the notion of an African-American man obtaining a Ph.D. ANNNNNND exercising his power in a positive way? Instead, why not we praise one another and cheer on our comrades as they strive to bring forth change?! It is indeed shameful to watch people negate and ridicule the efforts of their own, meanwhile excited to promote those of others. Whether I agree with Dr. Johnson’s stance on everything that he proposes and teaches is not what I am addressing here. I am, however, highlighting the self-hate that seemingly resides in some, which in turn, drives them to make continuous attempts to bring him down….yet, fortunately, to no avail.

  5. Treaty of Elms says:

“Black Unity” is as irrelevant to him as a vile dictator.

We cannot draw a cruel, vicious partition against feminists, gays and liberals and see this as “helping” the african american community. Divide and Conquer anyone? Nobody is going back to the good ‘ole 1970 days of sexual relations, before the sexual revolution. The 1980’s “down low” proved that post-sexual revolution black gays/gays would NEVER be part of the traditional family to being with, even when HOMOSEXUALITY wasn’t marketed and packaged like it is now. LGBT even before the mid 1980’s always existed and was acknowledged to as well “the funny eye in church etc). Brother barely evens accounts for straight black males in accordance with promiscuity.

Furthermore this man is a hatred-fueled atheist who speaks out against not only Christianity but all religions (Islam etc). He particularly slams Christianity as “The white mans religion” and “Holding blacks back” and “illusions”. What kind of?

He doesn’t hate homosexuality for true christian GOD type values. He hates because it destroys his “Pan-African” Hotep dream-world or whatever defunct african god he worships. He hates it because he uses it as a scapegoat along with the threat of its alleged sender, the “white man” destroying us, which conveniently hides our inadequacies as a people caused by US in the modern era. NOT THEM

Interracial Marriage has HELPED racial relations time again in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s and is the soft-side of the (sit-in) movements. Successful family and happiness in intermingling of blood have assisted and brought untold joy. ….. Yet Umar actually doubts Frederick Douglas PUBLICALLY on Roland Martin and calls people who partake in marrying whites coons, bed-wenches and self haters. How could you use a name fashioned in form by your enemy?

Umar has made the worst, disgusting, generic remarks and over-focusing and exaggerating on specific types black women. He calls them “sellouts” and “enemies”, and thats the LEAST of what he says.

He promises a school thats never been built, yet people with fewer resources have done amazing things. Even if HE DID build it, unless the result is overwhelmingly remarkable, their will be key questions about the money, (which is curses people who ask what happened to it.)

This man is a vile, confused, whirling mass of insanity.

He just got sucked into an Iran-Iraq type stalemate war with Tariq Nasheed. In which he depleted nearly all of his resources on a 6 week female emotional series of youtube rants on which he was on the offensive. This is while on-going he calls our beloved economics professor Boyce Watkins “Moist Watkins” as if we were in high school while debating him TOO.

MAY 8TH TWEET (UMAR) “Saw a white guy helping his neighbor’s black boy fix his flat today, I said myself these are the types of random insignificant acts of kindness from whites that confuse our people, 10 years from now when the 9yr old is 19 the same white man will call the police”

What kind of victim-ology Schizophrenic mentally ill person thinks this? Someone consumed, enraged and obsessed by race on a daily basis

He then defends Bill Cosby as a Hollywood “Lynch” Model. As if Bill Cosby did nothing wrong. He cheated on his marriage, admitted to using drugs. etc.

Nobody attacks Neil De Gra Tyson but they target Dr Ben Carson.

If you attack other black people in this Identity-Politics type fashion, you WILL yourself reap what you sow.

As I said in the beginning we will NOT have a hostile partition in which (according to Umar) the liberals cave and give up our way of being and all worship the Hotep way as king. We will not stand silent as you overly-racially tarnish the names of those in Interracial Relationships, people born sexually stimulated to same sex and NOT their own, Liberal Secular Atheists or even, stretching a bit the broad moniker that is the christian church.

From Isreal’s attacks on Syria to a high school bully to a beaten dog. If you keep attacking us non-stop, you will get the culture “war” you so richly deserve.

You don’t even have a God to back you, yet you debate from a conservative standpoint, you only have the “ancestors” who couldn’t even save themselves.

    Pathetic.

  6. Anne says:

Unity around wrongdoing and general regressivenss will never benefit black folks, a lesson that not even the fact that some of us have been taken advantage of by jackleg preachers who happen to be black have learned. His hateful remarks about black women in general, and single black mothers in particular (in spite of the fact that the mothers of HIS children are single), as well as his utterly disgusting remarks about rape victims should be troubling to anyone who wants unity. And his pseudo-scientific, also hateful remarks about gay folks, are equally damaging and alienating. There is NO scenario in which following or endorsing regressiveness will ever amount to progress.
