How Opportunity Presents Itself.

(ThyBlackMan.com) ‘Opportunity’ is defined as a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something – preferably something that will result in the seeker’s increase. Where were you the last time opportunity presented itself? Opportunity presents itself in unexpected ways. Will you be prepared?

It’s happened so many times that I’ve lost count: an opportunity opens in places and moments in which I least expect it. It could have been from a decision to take a drive down the street to attending a function I really had no excitement for. What I’ve learned is this: opportunity will show up in unexpected places – whether it’s love, business or the breakthrough of an idea.

It’s important to remain open, focused and always assuming a right-thinking attitude. This requires one to reposition their thinking and refocus their attention at all times.

Increase may show up at any day, any time and any place. My job is to always act on it – wherever it may appear! Here are four ways opportunity presents itself.

When Things are ‘Slow’

I make it a point not to ever say ‘business is slow’ – even when it is! Why? Because when you think about it, business is never slow – it’s the way you think about it. The fact is there is often more opportunity during a slow season than in a season of plenty. Besides, who says it’s slow, anyway? The answer: the person who is closed to opportunities in hidden places.

Opportunity presents itself in tracking new clients, in giving your marketing efforts a do-over. Always look for potential business no matter where you are with sales.

When Everyone Else Has Backed Out

This is the greatest of opportunity! When everyone else says it can’t be done, it is success disguised as certain failure.

It’s been said that more millionaires were made during the Great Depression during any other period in American history. Why? People were deathly afraid to make a move; they wanted to hold on to what they had.

It’s really no different now, even absent a Great Depression (although you could wager the same effect during the Great Recession of 2008). The best time to make it happen is when others either are afraid to make something happen or they don’t have the resources to make it happen.

In Unfamiliar Places

I learned a great principle a long time ago: Always go to places and events you don’t normally want to go to. The best of opportunity awaits you in unfamiliar places. When you go to an event such as a social meeting, go with eyes wide open for potential. Even if nothing profitable materializes, just the mere personal growth and exposure to something is enriching in and of itself.

In fact, opportunity may show up at sundry or ordinary places such as a traffic light, happy hour or in a barbershop. The key is to remain open wherever you are.

While You Are Volunteering

This principle aligns with the ‘give if you want to get’ creed. Whether it’s love, business or a breakthrough with a new idea, when you give your time and effort in the service of others, you reap immeasurable results and rewards. A bigger cause and effect principle is always at work when we endeavor to leave our own self-interests behind and pursue a common purpose. Spend some time mentoring; have lunch with a kid; put in some hours at homeless shelter and watch your life change in amazing ways!

Opportunity may present itself at any day and time. Will you be ready?
