(ThyBlackMan.com) Very few U.S. Presidents have been as disliked as Donald Trump. He has been one of the most controversial presidents in American history because of his persona, his brash campaign during the 2016 Election, and his head-scratching campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again”. It is not surprising to hear celebrities speak out very vocally against Trump for numerous reasons including Trump’s mind-boggling comments about the events in Charlottesville, Virginia. NBA players have been among the most vocal celebrities against Donald Trump including some of the NBA’s biggest superstars.

Following the events in Charlottesville, LeBron James had some interesting comments in public last week. As he addressed a crowd during an event for his foundation, James promoted love, support, and change in message of healing. During the course of his speech, LeBron James took a swipe at Donald Trump by referencing him as “the guy that’s the so-called president of the United States” instead of calling him by his name. The bulk of James’ comments were about the power of love and togetherness and changing society through love. However,James’ comments about Trump can’t be considered really surprising since he also referenced Trump’s campaign slogan on Twitter during the Charlotteville events.

With Donald Trump in the White House, there is going to be question marks about sports teams visiting the White House following championship seasons as has been customary for decades. The NFL’s New England Patriots had a mini-controversy about the amount of athletes that attended their visit to the White House earlier this year and there remains questions about whether the Golden State Warriors of the NBA will attend. Warriors superstar Steph Curry has been critical of Trump to the point of having issues with his endorsement with Under Armour.

Recently, the other superstar for the Golden State Warriors, NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant, strongly rejected the idea of going to the White House due to Trump’s presence. Durant mentioned doesn’t “respect who’s in office right now.” But the boldest part of Durant’s recent White House declaration was that he said, ““[I]f I know my guys well enough, they’ll all agree with me.” Despite being on the Warriors for slightly over one year, Durant knew his teammates well enough to assume that they would join him in turning down the White House.

Although the two biggest stars on the Golden State Warriors have been vocal in their disdain for Donald Trump, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has wanted to team to consider going to the White House while NBA commissioner Adam Silver believes that if the Warriors are invited to the White House that they should attend. It is surprising to hear Kerr even consider the idea after he blasted Trump when he was elected while Adam Silver obviously is trying to avoid offending the NBA’s conservative fans with his encouragement to the Warriors. Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob even avoided the topic of the White House visit when the team won the NBA championship earlier this year. Given that many NBA players have voiced their issues with Donald Trump, their issues with him will not be going away anytime soon.
