Three Places You Will Not Find Your Purpose.

(ThyBlackMan.com) The prevailing ethos in current pop psychology as it relates to personal growth ad development is to discover one’s purpose in life. Often, though, that’s easier said than done. Most people are unaware of meticulous steps involved in determining what’s really important to them. Self-discovery is a difficult process.

Where does one look for their purpose? How do we go about unearthing the greatest power we have at our fingertips?

If what George Bernard Shaw says is true – Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself – where do we begin?

Instead of trying to determine where you may find your purpose, consider where you may not find it. Here are three places you will not find your true purpose in life.

Circle of Friends

Friends represent something special in our lives. The fact is friendship is an invisible force field that can have a huge effect on our lives, depending on our ability to discern the meaning of such friendships and our willingness to take corrective action when circumstances deem it necessary. Often, we can depend on our friend network for support and encouragement.

That’s usually the best our friends can do for us. Has your life stagnated? Have you stopped moving toward your goals? It’s called the group effect. You should constantly check who you’re keeping company with.

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, wrote the late Jim Rohm.

What does that mean? What you hear over and over and what you experience on a daily emotive level becomes part of your internal system; uninspired friends can become silent killers of our dreams.

Unless you have a friend who is the consummate motivator, who routinely strives to achieve the ideal for their own life, your circle of friends will not lead you to your purpose.

On the Sofa

The ‘sofa mind-set’ generally refers to the state of prolonged physical, mental and intellectual inactivity that many experience on a daily basis. This is spiritual suicide on the installment plan. Aside from getting out of bed each day to engage the world confined to their job, the couch potato meanders through the balance of what’s left of their day. They are not challenged, therefore they don’t change. When asked what they are doing during the hours of 6pm-9pm, most respond: watching TV.

Zig Ziglar once stated, People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.

You will not discover your purpose on the sofa, nor will your purpose discover you.

Wrong-Thinking Mind-Set

Christian Larsen affirms, That a man can change himself, improve himself, recreate himself, control his environment and master his own destiny is the conclusion of every mind wide awake to the power of right-thinking.

But you must be thinking right in order to achieve this realm.

You cannot think ‘Can’t’, ‘I’m broke’, ‘I’m too this or that’, or any of the other myriad mental blocks we put on ourselves on a daily basis. You must transgress out of the region of impossibility thinking and move into the territory of ‘I can do’ thinking!

Today, make the choice to become a possibility thinker!

You will not discover your purpose in your circle of friends, on the sofa or by engaging in wrong-thinking.
