(ThyBlackMan.com) Transport costs always seem to be increasing, whether it is the cost of fuel for your car, or the cost of a train ticket for your daily commute to work. The prices seem to be forever on the rise.

If you are tired of paying expensive travel costs, then here are a few solutions for you to look into:

Change car – Some cars are much more fuel-efficient that others. Whilst changing your car can seem like a big job, when you calculate how much you could save over five-year period, you could be surprised.

Learning to drive – If you or someone in your family is currently learning to drive, then it can seem incredibly expensive when paying for lessons and tests. Shop around for a reasonably priced driving instructor, and/or ask people for recommendations before you sign up with anyone. When it comes to revising for the theory test, make sure you have undergone enough preparation before you book the theory exam. Remember, if you have to re-take the test, it will result in additional costs. You can practice using online theory exams such as top tests to get fully prepared.

Book tickets in advance – Many transport companies offer large discounts if you book your tickets in advance. This applies to flights, train tickets and many other modes of transport. If you know when you are going to travel and can plan in advance, then this is always a sure-fire way of getting reduced prices.

Similarly, if you can be flexible about your days of travel, you are more likely to be able to get cheaper options. For flights, there are websites like skyscanner that will provide you with prices for each day, so you can check to see if it is cheaper to go a few days before or after you had planned.

Buy annual tickets – If you are a regular commuter, make sure to look at the discounts you can get through buying annual tickets, or ones that last for a month or week at a time. Work out how much you would spend per day vs. how much it would cost to buy an annual ticket. Most travel companies provide ticket price calculators on their websites so you can quickly see your savings.

Another perk is, annual tickets save for time with queuing for tickets, plus they offer a refund option if you ever move house or job, meaning you do not lose your money from unforeseen circumstances.

Get a bike – Cycling to work is becoming more and more popular. As well as helping you to get fit, traveling by bicycle costs nothing in fuel. Some companies arrange Cycle to Work schemes for employees to get bikes and accessories at reduced rates. Your employer may also provide a lock up and showering facilities for people who cycle to work as it is in their interest to remove congestion from the car park and/or roads. This is also an eco-friendly option for anyone wishing to lessen their carbon footprint.
