Serena Williams kept this hush until the news of the engagement broke. Honestly, I’m not too surprised, and I’m happy for her. Word is some brothers are tripping because Serena Williams is not marrying a black man, and some could care less. To be honest with you Serena Williams has a racially eclectic dating history. She’s never just dated black nor white.
I wouldn’t be Ms. Sassy if I didn’t address the obvious. Look, to the black men that would have something to say please take a seat. How
many black men with money have married white women? Don’t worry I’ll wait for you to think about it. The bottom line is there is a bit of a double standard. When powerful black men marry white women we are to be silent, but when the opposite happens there is something to say. For those with an issue Serena Williams is living her life, maybe you should do the same. Her choice of spouse does the make her any less down with black folks then black men that have made the same choice she has. That’s really all there needs to said on that foolishness.
He biggest issue is media making it seem like black men thought Serena Williams was manly or spoke against her. That’s nonsense! There are many black men that find Serena Williams, and black women as a whole, beautiful. Brothers have praised the athletic achievements of Serena Williams as well as her body type and beauty. Let’s not lie on black men because she isn’t marrying a black man.
Though there may be a few brothers that wished she was with a black man there are more that aren’t concerned about who Serena Williams marries. There are black men that wish her well on her engagement, and some that wouldn’t care who she marries. Basically, don’t make her engagement a big problem for most black men when it is not such. Furthermore, it’s not cool to use Serena Williams engagement to cause division between black men and women.
Congratulations to Serena Williams on her engagement we wish her the best. Let her live her life. The rest of us are definitely going to live our life. Those with issue will get over it, and most of us aren’t concerned as it doesn’t change how we live.. No need for drama people.
