(ThyBlackMan.com) Okay my dear black people early voting is over, and our turnout was LOW. Look, truth be told neither candidate for President is a favorite. If you became of age to vote within the last eight years…all you know as far as Presidents go is Barak Obama. I understand you feel played by these candidates, but one of them WILL be President and you need to think of what that will mean for this country over the next four years.

Too many of us are at home and within our communities griping about what needs to change in this country. We have some screaming Black Lives Matter, some screaming we aren’t being heard, mothers & fathers mourning children in the street, churches being set on fire, and a fear that is NOT new. Ok, I get it…but none 123moveforactionof this is new. What is annoying is the audacity of too many of us to do nothing but run our mouth. It’s time to just be honest about where we stand.

This was the plea by many leading up to the election. So many gave reason as to why their vote wouldn’t matter. Basically, many people were in their feeling… yes black folks brooding in their feelings. From social media to community discussions the back and forth continued about the importance of voting. Many of us could agree Hillary Clinton wasn’t a perfect nor favored candidate, but Donald Trump was far more than a disturbing politician.

“So, you don’t have any faith in the Presidential election…I would never ask you to have such. However, what about ALL THE OTHER offices you didn’t vote for that effect your everyday life. Many of us have access to google via some device, but yet too many of us remain ignorant about how our country works. Too many of us still look to the President to fix problems that the office is not responsible to handle. Does Congress ring a bell…we should be concerned about who our House Representatives, and Senators are because THEY MAKE LAWS. We should be concerned about who our District Attorney and Chief of Police is…too many of us face community unrest that involves the police. We should care about the judges that preside over cases in our community. This is important is it not? These are some of the areas we totally disregard when we decide we are so frustrated we won’t vote.”

If you stayed at home deciding not to vote…you played a part in the Republicans winning a majority in both the House of Representatives, and the Senate. YOUR VOTE MATTERED! Now we have, arguably, a Congress, and White House that does not reflect the needs of the American people. So many, especially young voters, could not seem to separate the Presidential election from the other items on the ballot. So many of us are angry at the election outcome, and we are loud about it. Did you vote is the question? Did you allow your voice to be heard when it mattered?

The truth is now that Donald Trump has won…overt racism is breathing new life. White racists, and white nationalists, feel that it is okay to terrorize minorities because their “Champion” won. When you decided not to vote did you see this coming? Did you anticipate seeing a blast from Jim Crow? Maybe this is the wakeup call we need to move to action verses merely complaining and fussing about the matters that effect our community. If you made the mistake on not moving to vote in the election; choose to get involved now.

We can’t just through our hands in the air in anger, nor simply take our feelings to the street. Don’t allow yourself to be so angered, and incapacitated, by the outcome of the Presidential election that you forget we can only advance our communities by making a daily conscious effort to stay involved and allowing ourselves to be heard regularly…verses waiting for an election. Your voice matters to your everyday life so put it to constructive use. Get up and make a difference in your community.
